16" 308 mid weight projectile powder

Currently loading 150gr Nosler BT's with H335 in my 16" Tikka bushpig. However i'm finding quite a bit of velocity variance with temperature. Getting 2730 in winter and would quite like to get a bit more speed if possible that doesn't push me into the red come summer! Any recommended other powders to try? Was thinking of trying 2206H is likely to me any better or much the same? Not really wanting to go to lighter projectiles.

    Cheers!

8208 will give you the same speed without the pressure swing in summer.

I use 2208 as well with the 165 Federal Trophy bonded tips. Only going 2410 but is accurate, just need to test it on animals now

2208? What swing is this you speak of?

I used to load a 180gr RN over 43gr 2206H in my 13” .308 for 2400fps. Admittedly not a “medium weight” projectile, but 2206H is good for shorter barrels on account of its slightly faster burn rate than 2208.
    More meplat, more better.

Is that the same as 2206h?

Data is for a 15" barrel but will still give you an idea. 2208 still give the best speed even in a 15" barrel how much is left un-burnt who knows.

Interesting. Every rifle is different of course. I use an 18" barrel and get 2,800 fps with 45.5 2206H. Only get 2,740 fps with 47.5 2208 - both loads .5 gr over book max but perfectly safe in my rifle.

    In a 16" .308 Win with 44gr of 2208, Quickload says you get a 96% burn. With 2206H, you get 95%, with H335 you get 99%.

2208 will be too slow for you, if you're chasing more velocity. 2206H will be about 100fps faster than 2208. H335 is only a little bit faster that 2206H, negligible difference.

Quickload is often a bit off the mark, but for this one it says you must be loading pretty hot to be getting 2700fps+ in winter out of 16".

I use 2208 in my 24 inch 308 and 16 inch 30-30. I used to use 2206 (not 2206h) in my 223 but never tried it in the 30-30, now I just use 2208 in all three.

I'm over book max... 45.5gr H335 for 2730fps in winter, getting 2820 in summer. No pressure signs. NZhunter went up to 47gr with the 150gr accubonds i seem to recall. But in the end decided to go with the 130gr TTSX I seem to recall.

    I'm using 46.5g 2206h which pushes 150g SST at 2751fps in a 16inch bushpig
