168gr Nosler BT
Looking to use a CDS voucher to get a turret for my 300WSM. I shoot 168 Nosler BT's.
Nosler are renowned for bullshitting their advertised BC's. There's a PDF floating around online showing their claimed BC's vs Litz's measured BC's for the 125, 150, 165 and 180 BT... but not the 168.
165 advertised as 0.248, actual 0.227.
180 advertised as 0.271, actual 0.241.
I've gone with 0.230 for the 168 but this is a guess.
Anyone got anything better? Applied Ballistics maybe?

I used G1 .490 for the 168 in my 300 saum (JBM says that's G7 0.241 - way higher than where you are). I think that is the Nosler BC too. Ive only validated it out to 500 yds. Chrono'd 3030fps
300 saum, 168 BT, 326 yards TBR. Couple of days ago. I dial.
That strike is exactly where it was meant to go.
P.s. This is applied ballistics :)

Applied ballistics says .218

@Reloader75 yeah that's what I get in Strelok too which is odd because the whole point of the 168 over the 165 is the extra 3gr is meant to boost the BC a bit and be a more conventional weight... yet it's lower.

@Tahr, thanks for that. Given the velocity and the ranges you've shot it out to, I wouldn’t expect 0.490 vs 0.460-0.470 (possibly closer to the truth) to make a noticeable difference.
And for me it's probably superfluous too since I won't be shooting game past the same kind of ranges... but it's a two turn turret so I could target shoot to over 1k potentially. May as well get it right because it starts to make a meaningful difference out there.

0.218 is also the G7 of the 168 Nosler CC so it's a bit suspect.

Yea the 180 looks much better at .241
Still a bit down on my Berger 215’s at .358[emoji6]

I run 168 NBTs in my 18in bbl 308. Struggled to find independent validated BC, so looking at Litz's data on other NBTs figured that a 5% reduction from Nosler's BC of 0.49 by 5% should be a good starting point. Used 0.465 and that's working pretty well out to 500 yards. Litz data across all NBT's says the BC's are 6.3% high, but when you look at the bigger pills its closer to 5%

@Pommy, I would send an email to Applied ballistics. I did this for a 7mm bullet a year or two ago and they agreed that there was a database error and fixed it. I can't remember what it was I will have to go through my old emails, but the situation was very similar to yours where 2 or 3 bullets had the same BC from Applied Ballistics but where each different from the manufacture.
