    18" barrel 243 ballistics

    What kind of speed can I look at getting from an 18" 243
    Looking at a ruger american carbine in 243 for a couple of short people to use

    just tried some loads thru my American With stainless with 18 barrel and hre magnum can from my 270. Ar2206h 34.5g gave me 2700 fps With 95 graiin targex. Got to try n550 to get close to 3000.
    very quiet to shoot and near no recoil.

    Have you tried 2209 though it yet Ant?
    It works very well though my .243 with 95 Bergers and results have been great on deer, wallabies and goats.
    I'm only launching them at 2900 but accuracy is great.

    I've just bought a 2nd hand kimber 243 and I'm going to cut it to 18 inches and try a DPT. Have currently got 2 Hardys and previously had a GWs can. All work well. I had a 243 sako 75 finnlight till I shot the barrel out that was suppressed at about 19 inches. Still worked well. 85 grain sierra hpbts work primo on the deer.

    thats the reason I dont use blitzking 55's in my 243 any more ... they go like a stabbed rat but one round and the barrel is on FIRE ... 58gn Vmax's are slower - more accurate (as counter intuitive as that may sound) and have more destructive power.
