    18 inch 308 powder

    Hi there
Currently using ADI 2208 in my 18inch 308 with 168gn pills. Getting around 2550-2600 fps. Get about 2780 when I use 125gn hornadys (wallaby load)
Is there another ADI powder that would be more efficient in a shorter barrel?
Currently use 2208 in both 308 and 223 loads so would be great to use one powder across the board but happy to split.
    223 is a 19 inch T3x using 75gn Hornadys.

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Cheers

I was using ADI 2206H in my 308 pushing 125gn projectiles, it was bloody brilliant, would be worth trying 2206H with ya heavier load too

Cheers mate. Yeah not sure why I started with 2208, probably an early recommendation from someone somewhere. On the ADI website they suggest 2206 for the 308. Is the difference between 2206 and 2206h just burn rate?

Shit thats screaming. You must have painted flames on your barrel to make it go that fast!

Nah mate no flames just the urge to crack 3000fps haha. I never shot a deer with it but think I made a few bunnies disappear better than a magician. If I still had that gun would have probably changed to a harder bullet like an accubond etc in that weight class and used it to shock animals up close. Having re read what you are doing I think you actually have good speed for the bullet size and there is not real point to changing unless you change pill. Mate runs an 18" 308 with 168eldms going 2600 and in the last 3 years has killed well over 100 deer from right up close to 570yds. That speed is perfect for the bullet too as you don't want to drive them fast so maybe you could look at that? I would happily run 2208 in a 223 as well

    They don't make 2206 anymore, only 2206h.
2206h works in both 308 and 223 so would be worth a try.

Mucked around with H335 but have found 2206H seems to yield a better case fill and be slightly more accurate (16" Tikka). That was with 125gr and 150gr projectiles though.

Also 2206H is super temp stable which is a bonus.

Think of it in terms of percentages. How much, in percentage terms, am I going to gain if I change powder?

I guarantee you it will be less than 5%.

That isn’t worth it mate, the ballistics will hardly change and the animal will not report any tangible difference in how its hit.

AR2206H will give you sharper recoil, more bark and more muzzle flash. BM8208 is even worse.

AR2208 (Varget) is the best all round powder for .308 bar none.

My load gives me a genuine and witnessed many times over half MOA from an 18” barrel and a 165gr Speer. Assuming I point it in the right place, the animal is dead. What’s not to like?

The reloader is always tempted to fiddle unnecessarily. Don’t fiddle. Or go fiddle with something else.

    Just...say...the...word

I’m kind of with Flyblown on this. I tried 8208, BM2, 2206h and 2208 in my 20” 308, and there really wasn’t much difference. Just go with what is accurate.
