    .223 1-8 Twist loads

    Hi all,

Just searching for info on the 1-8 Twist .223 loads.

I have some Winchester 64 and OSA 55 grain factory loads to try.

You tube is suggesting the OSA will work well but I'm also after anyone who has tried Hand loading the Nosler 60 grain Tipped, Hornady 75 & 80 Amax, Hornady ELD-M 75 or any other pills of any weight that have worked in their Tikka .223 1-8 Twist.

I have a shed load of once fired brass so keen to see what people have used.

The objective is to smash gongs and vermin out to 300 at the moment, with the hope that we can push further in the right conditions with the right load.

I'm also aware that the magazine is limited in length.

I recently loaded up some Hornady 68gr hpbt with 24.5 grs of ADI BM2 for my 16" 1 in 7 twist barrel led AR15.

Beware this is a book maximum load.

Once zeroed on paper I took aim at an 8" steel gong and hit it with the first shot taken from 100, 200, 300 and twice at 400m

This may be a similar load to what your looking for.

I also loaded some 77grSierra hpbt match projectiles reccomended for 1 in 7 and 1 in 8 twist barrels only.
This load was also a book maximum at 22.8grs of ADI BM2 powder.

The paper group was similar to the 68gr hornadys at 100m however I didn't shoot these at the gongs so can't comment on that.

But these projectiles may also have some merit for what your trying to achieve

    Cheers
    Pete

Really interested in the 53gr Vmax loads... Wonder if it's due to the longer length if any?

Might get some and give it a whirl.

I found the 53gr a little erratic in my T3 1:8, was loud to shoot also (FL barrel + DPT) I now shoot the 75gr eldms (see my thread on page 2) far more consistent with 1/2 groups, much quieter to shoot and are deer poison if placed well. No going back for me.

i have used hornady 68gr hpbt and sierra 69gr hpbt in my 1/10 twist 223,i found the sierra's more accurate but i like the hornady's better for hunting thing's up to fallow deer size.only about 1/4" difference in group size

Iv used 80gr amax, they go good.
Also don't forget 80gr targex, accurate and a bit shorter than 80 amax if your stuck for length.

In my t3 1:8 twist, 55 shoot very well, 50 gn not so good. 69, and 80s also good as you would expect. Handloads with the win 64s were average at best. Probably my loads but maybe
    not.

    I have a Savage Model 12 VLP .223 1:7 twist 26" barrel.
It's been used for FTR target shooting with 80 gr A-Max (and 75 gr when 80 weren't available) over 24.7 gr ADI 2208 in Norma cases.
A reliable load for this rifle.

If you want to shoot small stuff and including goats to 300m use 53gr Sierra with 26gr BM2.Head shoot all of it.My son learnt on this gun and load. His normal deer load is 65gr GMK with 24gr BM2.

My tikka t3x 223 8" twist 20" barrel with hardy gen 5 shoots 1/2-1/4 using 2206h, behind a 50gr SBK, 65gr SGK and the 75gr ELD-Match, I found the 53gr vmax was erratic and lacked consistancy. I use ADI brass and CCI primers, good luck, it sure is a fun round to play around with and affordable to do so!

    Hey thanks man.
I'm really looking forward to some load development with this rig.
The heavier pills will be cool if I can get them to shoot. The bc on the 75 eldm looks ridiculous and my son is drooling at the thought of smashing some gongs at 300 yds.
Just the beginning of a long addiction to the hunting game I reckon!

Man, I'm getting excited about some potential here. Are there any issues with the Tikka mag and the 75 ELD-M?
