    223 Powder ... again

I was going to reload to barnes 53gr TSX FB's for my 223 this weekend ... but cant get the powder that Barnes have in their reloading manual

has anyone got a load that they could share using ReloderX10 - or Varget .

Also. Can loads be safely used for different projectiles projectiles of the same weight ?

What I mean by this is, could i get the Hornday load for the 53gr VMax, and use it as a starting point for a load development for 53 gr Barnes TSX's

I realise that what comes out of this may or may not be accurate - and can live with that .. but is this a safe approach ??

    Tim

    hey Tim
i had an experience loading barnes bullets for my 308 havent tested them yet either

using the same weight pills 168 gr that using the same powder weight say 42grs of 2206h that the barnes pressed down onto the powder in the case ,now i know this is because the barnes are longer projectiles , not sure if i can seat them out further (just havent checked my max oal for my mag yet) or i may need to use less powder
wonder if is the same sort of question you are asking?

The Hornady Load for Vmax 53Gr projectiles is Min Load : xx.x grains .... max Load : xx.x + y grains (cant rem the exact numbers)

can I just use that load, substituting the 53 gr VMax's for the 53gr Barnes TSX ?? Is that safe ?

Im pretty sure the fit will be OK

yeah, thats what I'm trying to do ..

theres things that you can try and they just wont work well ...

theres other things you can try - that are just plain unsafe ...

and as a noob, its hard to know the difference

In my 308 at least i have found you can run more powder with the ttsx due i guess to less bearing surface and friction.

    I'm sure Varget = ADI 2208

Spanners had a thread somewhere on here with various powder equivalents.

The burn rates are equivalents in the chart. They can't be used as equals. Don't transpose powder charges across burn rates for load development.

    thanks for that @kiwijames.

the question is, of course, if they're not charge equivalents, how does one transpose them ??

They are a rough guide for burn rate not exacts (except the ADI - Hogdon equivalents as posted by KG, exact same powder only a packaging/branding difference).
TBF I do not know the exact differences but I'd expect across manufacturers the load densities will be different creating very different results. With 10s of thousands of PSI a few inches from your face I'd suggest to err on the cautious side.
