    260 powder options

Hey guys am running a tikka 260 with an 18" barrel. At the moment am trying to get my load faster as was running a 140sst with 45.5grs of 2209 doing 2770fps~ but have some 129ssts to try and was not getting even 2700fps with 43grs of 2209 although it was accurate. Looking for the middle ground between accurate, fast and a good killer so wondering what other powders I could try? Have some 2208 and 2206h. If nothing else I know I have a few reasonable loads for hunting.
    Regards John

You could try 2213sc with your 129grs , I have a mate loads these successfully with that powder in his 6.5x55

The speed you are getting from the 18inch barrel is good. I was getting 2850 with 45g with the 143eldz with a 22inch barrel. Could try superformance powder.

There is also the newish Reloader 16, it's also in that group burning rate wise and there are claim it is less temperature sensitive.

didn't see the 18" barrel part first time
Have no experience with short barrels.

140s with 45.5gr, then 129s with 43gr? That seems like a strange way to get more velocity to me. Isn't it usual to use more powder with lighter projectiles? With the same powder load the lighter projectile should get better velocity, but you arent even at the same load. Generally you should be able to load more powder behind a lighter projectile (less weight, length and bearing surface creating less pressure), though this is not always the case due to differences in projectile construction, design and hardness.
In my 308 I'm currently running 130s with 47gr, 150s with 45gr, and 178s with 42.5gr of 2208. I haven't chronoed it yet but the 130s are going a lot faster than the 178s based on POI at 200m.

Settled on 43grs for accuracy I should have said. Got faster with more powder(worked upto 46grs) but not happy with grouping

Yep try some of the now magical RL16 in that 260. Superformance could be a bit on the slow side for 18" tube.

H414 will get them moving a fair bit quicker than 2209, but this RL16 seems to be the go - was just looking at some info out of the US last night.

In your magazine? Are you just going to tear out a page and send that, how much is postage? Might be cheaper for me to walk down the shop and buy my own magazine?

It doesn't work like that in my experience, including with the 260 Rem. For a given powder charge, velocity is essentially the same for different projectile weights. However, you can safely put more powder behind a lighter projectile.

H414 (same as Win760) works great in the 260
