Anyone on here have some real world experience of shooting varmint weight projectiles out of a 270.
Thinking 90gr flat base hollow points like the Speed TNT or Siera 90 or 100gr HP Varminter
Interested to hear you experiences.
Some of the Yank forums guys mention struggling to get the light ones accurate
I remember (way back when I was and didn't know better) I loaded some 90 gr Sierra in my 270. They were dynamite on goats even shot my first fallow deer up Woodhill with one but I don't think they are the ideal for bigger animals.
Not intended for larger animals.
Looking for an accurate solution for tiny targets :-)
I use 100gr hp wicked fallow round and deadly accurate
Have used 90 grn Sierra hp varminter before. 54.6 grn of 2208 in a bsa.
Didnt have a chrony at the time but I suspect they were honkin.
Seemed to group ok and pink misted bunnies quite well.

not quite 277 but i use 90 gr tnts in my 264
I recall years ago when we lived in Central, I loaded up some 100g Speer (I think they were Speer), to shoot goats and long range rabbits.
They were unbelievably accurate on paper at 100 yds which is the main reason I remember them - like 5 shots more or less in the same hole. This was out of a Sako Finnbear. This was way before suppressors but they worked well on goats, but way to noisey to be much good for rabbits.
No reason why you couldnt shoot everything with them.
The Matamata Mongrels :thumbsup: use 110 Hornady Flat base out of tikka 308's for fallow - that works real well... Similar type of ratio I would have thought..
A mate of my loaded up the 90gr serria HP's back in the 1990s. They were great on goats, and ok on fallow (all neck shot). He had one completely fail on a shoulder of a red stag and went back to 130gr hornadys after that.

I use to use hornady 110g HP was doing 3350 was pretty impressive on small game, didn't need a follow up shot :thumbsup:
