Thread: .280 Ackley Improved powders

Hey guys.

Looking for some advice here please. Looking at switching to Vihatvouri powder for use with 160 - 168gr projectiles. Was using Reloder 23, however I can get Vihatvouri powder at a better price and better availability.

I was getting 2960 fps with 160gr in my Kimber with good accuracy, using Rel 23. Out of N165, N560 and N580 which would be the recommended?

N560 is what I use in 280ai , 2980fps with the old 162gn AMAX. Some folks report same/better with RL26

Im using N165 in mine.

162 AMAX at around 2900ish - could squeeze a bit more from it but haven't bothered.

2225. Easy to get, cheap and reliable

Even 2217 but I reckon 2225 first

I use 2217 in 18” barrels.

I tried 2217 and RL22/23, neither provided the same level of performance (accuracy & speed) as N560. RL22 was next best - gave same size groups as N560 (0.3 - 0.4 moa) but at 2830 fps w RL22 vs 2980 fps w N560.

Any data for 2225? Thanks
