    284 winchester

    284 win
Hey guys if anyone’s interested I thought I’d share some findings. I’ve got about 150 rounds through the rifle now and seems to like both the 180 and 162 eldm. I had some trouble in the beginning which was half expected. I used the gun works .318 reamer with my loaded cases being around .314. After brass spring back it left about 1 thou per side which obviously wasn’t enough. I developed a dangerous carbon ring that caused pretty bad pressure spikes after 30 rounds. Took the rifle back to the smith and he opened it up to .322 with his reamer. Seems to have fixed the issue and am now running the 180s right at the shoulder neck junction and 40 thou jump. Seating the 162s the same and they’re obviously jumping a bit further. Doesn’t seem to be an issue. Here’s a few results and speeds. Very happy with the 20” barrel performance.(2800fps with 162s and 2700fps with 180s) Cheers to Cam at alpine for the barrel and Mark at desert guns for putting it together.

Using 2209. About a grain over max. Shot on a 19 degree day and went .5 over on the cronoed loads, got some very light ejector smear. Bolt lift was still good. Backed it off .5

Started as a tikka 308, took a dremel to the bolt stop and feeds great through the 30-06 mags.

nice, I really rate the 284 in a tikka action.

If you're interested and you can get your hands on it... RL26 will really step your velocity up again, but what you have there is very capable already.

Thank, same it’s like it was made for it. If I could get a constant supply I’d definitely try it. Getting better speeds than I thought i would with 2209 so I’m pretty stoked with it. Was dinging some steel with it at 950m in the weekend.
