giving up reloading and selling rifles, then buying the lupo (eww) , then buying the 270 wsm back, now 300wsm rebarreling. Think you might need help. 300wsm is an awesome caliber. I wish my 30 nosler was a 300 wsm. Look up 'the pug 300wsm ' on rockslide forum that's a 20 inch 300wsm using heavies.

    Good luck with your problem
I'm not sure what the problem is

maybe you need to rebarrel it in 30/06 ? maybe its a ex kind of thing. 300wsm is pretty close in performance. go 7mm saum pre order every thing you need. in the mean time go 300wsm. When you change your mind again you will go back to 7mm.

I run a shortened 270wsm now. Tikka T3x 21” with a Z8i swaro on top. Kills everything and is my go to. However I only use factory load as I’m never at home and rather have shit loads of a known factory load sitting at home. This rifle shot the factory Hornady 145 precision hunter at 2810 fps. Ouch! No good.
So now I run the 140gr federal premium hybrid hunter. BC of .518 and does 3070fps into 0.27”. Sold! However I’m now down to my last two packets of ammo and none on the horizon.
So I’m building a 21” 300wsm with a fluted barrel, fluted bolt, carbon stock with a hardy magnum suppressor. Have seen this exact set up shoot the Norma 180gr with a BC of .615 into half an inch at 2900fps. Sold. More power than the 270wsm, ammo on tap and lighter.
Same Z8i 3.5-28 BT on top. Just need to make sure I don’t put a bloody 270wsm round in my 300! Thank god the federal ammo is silver.

@dannyb ive resized heaps of 270wsm to 300. I lost a few to split necks but that was mainly due to trying to it too fast or not enough lube.

I also run the superperformance ammunition, I tried reloading with 180s, 168s etc but for all the hassle and how little time I get in the hills it wasn’t worth it for Me. Factory ammo does 2705fps in mine. 3.4kg 20” with a stug and swaro.

I load for a mates 20" Tikka WSM with 178 ELDM at mag length I tried RL26 and Hodgdon superprofrmance both worked well and both archived 2964 and 2961 fps
Hodgdon superprofrmance had a lower SD and I didn't want to waste my 26 so that's what I load for him.

Did a mock up today .

First picture shows where my suppressor sits at current 22" barrel.

Here is where it will sit with the barrel docked to 19"

So should see me pretty much at factory length with the suppressor fitted and should make it much handier and less front heavy.
The heavy 200eldx at the speed I'll be lobbing them should hit like the hammer of Thor from zero to well past 500yards

Don't over think it mate. The 300 wsm will kill anything with any combo of pill-powder you choose
The key to the short magnums is that they all work well as a short barrel suppressed set up.
I personally believe 20 inches is the happy length for all of them as it gives good retained velocity and makes it a nice compact shooter to carry.
Something I have learnt over the years by spending too much $$$ is that it's not about the weight of your shooter and the speed it spits out a pill but more about riffe length and accuracy!
The reason I put more emphasis on rifle length is that it's all aboout "perceived weight" than actual weight. What I mean by that is that a long rifle of the same weight will feal heavier than the same weight short rifle due to leverage in your hand or while carrying on uoyr shoulder.
Accuracy should speak for itself. Any projectile placed in the right spot will do the job.

Don't over think it just shoot it.
More emphasis should be on how quickly you can wear out your boots!

Yup gotta work with what's available I would happily work up a load with superformance or re17 but it's unobtainable as are 178gn eldm/x pills
2209 will push em just fine will still achieve everything I need it too....even if it does shoot fireballs out the end
