    308 Projectile

Found this just under the skin of 2 year old hind I shot. Had gone in taken out both lungs and top off the heart
Short run of possibly 120 mtrs. Shot at 120 to 140 mtrs.

Projectile now weighs 124 grams so started at 165 Hornady BTSP weight loss = near 34%
Huge bleeding from entry obviously none from exit.

It did the job but is it good not to have an exit wound? This just hit a rib not shoulder bone then hit rib on other side
went through then stopped in its tracks.

I have about 150 of these loaded so wonder if good or bad...

Acceptable or should I try some other projectile?

Hate the thought that a more distant shot could mean a whole lot more running by the animal.. It stopped just short of some pretty scruffy bush..

Try serria pro hunter 150gr. I dont know what they are like on range but at 100m the .308 is well under 1 inch and they are deadly on deer. My little brothers first deer he shot about 80m on a red yearling it picked it off its feet and threw it into the scrub bush behind it. + had a huge fist sized hole out the back. It was great.

I'd stick with it ,in my opinion thats exactly what you want.Animal absorbs all the shocking power of the projectile which should put it on the deck pretty quick . You don't get that if the projectile exits other side. I would try to put the shot in the shoulder in line with the leg ,that will drop the animal on the spot.

Id stick with it, If that shot was another 80/100y it would have still mushroomed and fragmented(good in moderation)+ exited.
Performing like that on a body shot should be good(terminal performance) to at least 300.

Everything you read(or I do) on bullet placement for a fast clean kill (Im talking body shots here) IMHO are to low. They generally point you at one third of the chest up following the line of the front leg on a perfectly broadside animal at the same elevation(level shot)
This puts you dangerously close to the heart. heart shot almost always results in a "star jump" on impact then a run for basically as long as the brain can go without oxygen. This can make your dead steak very hard to find if its gone down hill in thick cover.
I recommend to anyone who will listen to go for a high lung shot.
Half to two thirds of the way up the chest in line with the leg will drop an animal on the spot 98.23% of the time
It shocks the spine causing instant paralysis with rapid bleed out from the lungs resulting in nice meat
Move the same shot rearward to save shoulder meat but dont go to far!

The next one will probably drop on the spot when shot in the same place so don't read too much into it. Looks like the bullet did the job to me.
