    50 gr Vmax 223 Reloads

Gidday everyone, took my short 223 Tikka out last night with some 55gr Hornady Varmint Load Vmax to try instead of the 1ish MOA Belmont I normally use, not cheap at $45 a box. (50 round boxes for $75 very hard to find round Welly) It shot beautifully, at close to 1/4 MOA and no flyers from the box which I was really surprised with. I'm not keen to keep shelling out that much coin so will just start reloading for it. Is 2206H still most peoples powder of choice? Did a bit of reading on past forum posts. Keen to give the V Max a go for a while.
    Any advice much appreciated

Nothing wrong with 2206H in the 223 with a 55 grain pill.

BM2 also works quite well in the rifle I tried it in. Yours may or may not agree, but that's where the fun is in finding out!

    Spot on!

I tried a few things in my T3

AR2206H worked well with Sierra & Vmaxs

BM2 didn’t work for me with the above projectiles but worked a treat with 55gr Hornadies which are good little killers!

CFE223 is also another powder to try but I found it to be dirtier.

I've tried all the usual powders, and ended up using Benchmark 1 with 50gr V-Max.

24" barrel, quite a hot load, 3400fps, deadly accurate, use it for goat control and varmints out well past 300m.

Try the 53gr ones. 15% better BC vs the 50 or 55gr.
Didn't do well in my 14" barrel with 26gr of H335 though. Had 0.6 MOA @ 100m and 1.8 MOA @ 200m. Sierra Blitzking and Nosler BT grouping better...

Well bloody hell I never knew that. Checked on the website and bugger me it's true!

Problem is @JaSa, like a lot of blokes, I actually use the yellow tipped, less than half price bulk buy Z-Max. To the best of my knowledge they never made a 53gr Z-Max.

I see that the 53gr V-Max is a fair bit longer than the two either side of it.
