6.5-284 loads
Just working on a load for a 24" savage in 6.5-284, using 140 Berger VLD hunters, oal is around 3.19, my target rifle is pushing 139s at 2950+ at 48.8 to 49 gr of 2209 out of 32" barrel and grouping .0952 @ 100 but it's to hot for a factory rifle me thinks, anyone have a similar setup for hunting ?

Gidday - You don't say which 139 projectile you're using in your target rifle but Quickload verifies that if its a 140 VLD 49.0 of AR2209 will give you 2950 at 52800 psi, which isn't excessive. As always treat such data with caution.

Thanks for the reply... lapua secnar OTM is the projectile, the 2209 at 49 with the VLDs is showing signs of overpressue in the savage, the 2209 data suggested a max load of 45.5, not to concerned about velocity as I am accuracy.

Again according to Quickload 49 gns AR2209 in a 24" barrel should be giving you 2770 fps with the 140 VLD at the COL you mentioned (which is quite short for that cartridge). Pressure the same at 52800 psi.

My 6.5x284 is in a Blaser R93
139 Lapua Scenars so very similar.
VV N560 54.0 grains
2850 FPS
LOA 79.9mm
Groups 4mm for 5 shots ( one hole if I'm on task )

I use 48.5 of 2209 with the 140 gn Berger VLD target and hunters, lapua brass and federal match primers. 10 thou off the lands but probably could be a bit closer. Velocity runs at 2850 ish.
I've been up to 51 gns but the primer pockets get a bit lax after a few rounds. Custom 700 with a Hart tube at 27"

Got of to know, I'm running a 24" savage so won't expect to much, I'll post results after next test run!
