Anybody running one on a short action and if so what sort of results are you getting?
I would need to run 75mm oa length or less for mag feeding.

Shorten a RUM case until you get exactly the length you want
The new 28 nosler brass is 3.340 long

I'm running 140gr partitions 76mm OAL and getting 2975fps, it is out of a long action but I also run 140A-max @ 79.5mm. The partitions are accurate and deadly. Cheers.
Case head too big!
Cheers..... thats a pretty big jump for the partitions, they seem to like it?
I could go long throat and single feed for gongs and find a projectile that will handle the jump for hunting I guess but life is so much better mag fed.
Edit just realized not a big jump cos of bullet nose shape.
Hey @veitnamcam I run a Ruger Long action (ex .270) had barrel change work done at Stager Sport and am now running 6.5 x.284...
I run Sierra 123g HPBT at 2.830" or 71.882mm and Sierra 142g HPBT at 2.910" or 73.914mm... factory Norma brass...works really well, and rather accurate too...
Hey Vietnam , what is the donor action you are using for that project?
Probably this.

Originally I was going to do a .264 Win mag, but in the end moved to the 6.5 x.284 22" 1-8 twist, already had the doner rifle, haven't had it long, been to the range once and @Woody was good enough to let me borrow his chrono...
I worked up some rounds based on the Sierra recommendations, damn accurate, within 5" of Bull at 500m (in my defense the heat haze was horrendous) H&K Man can vouch for that...lol At 300m 1/2" from Bull and no more than 1" at 400m
So on the chrono 123g were pushing 3K and 142g pushing 2850fps and neither were on max load... 123g on 2217, 142g on 2209...
Am going to load up some Nosler LRAB 129g too
hey, mine is in a sako long action and im running just over 77mm OAL, if you could get 75 then you will still be sweet with a 140VLD and proably around the 2900 mark
have you thought about a 260?
I know I shouldn't say this but....................all this hassle to get .270 performance?????
Your right you shouldn't say it, just think it
I have heard the Tiika/Sako barrels dont take well to improving sometimes due to a hard surface but removeing the whole chamber by going to the 284 case should sort that tho I havent actually talked to a smith yet.
Also I already have the 30-284 so common brass and dies and even with a 140 stuffed in it the 6.5-284 should still have well more capacity than 260ai.
On my list of round tuit jobs was to make a new mag box to suit the 284 shoulder and this would not work with the 260.
Yes you are bang on there I have just done that. I had a 6.5/284 with a 20" barrel and it was a struggle to get 2800fps with the 130grn in a long action.
So went down the .260AI path and now I'm getting 2850fps with the same projectile and 10grns less powder although I made it a 22" barrel.
Keep what you have and put money into boat
@veitnamcam, have a chat to Hugh at Stager, he did mine, was all over it, was always in contact to discuss, I certainly couldn't be happier, it wasn't an expensive job either was well pleased...
Just showing off now...lol

Not much in it between the .260 Ackley and 6.5-284 with same bullets and barrel length.
Less powder and arguably better barrel life with the Ackley getting similar if not better velocities.
I seriously considered a 6.5-284 before choosing the Ackley.

The plain jane 6.5-284 is just so simple though....beautiful lapua brass out of the box with no fireforming. The 260AI seems like a freakn efficient round though, my 6.5x55 is pushing hard to get 2970fps with 123gr Amax's in my blaser!
Yea a lot to be said for load it and shoot.

I just wish you could still buy blaser R93 6.5-284 barrels :O_O:
Poke a reamer up a 260 one.

Yea i have a Blaser standard .260 22" S/S done by Dan Hardy that I may be tempted to sell as I have a .260AI as well for the Blaser R93.
VC, you say you have 75mm to spare in the mag box on that Sako 75. Before I pulled that barrel I had a rough measure up, these are all touching the lands;
130 VLD Hunting = 76.1mm
129gr SST = 75mm
123gr Amax = 74.1mm
If you go with 260 Rem then this bit of info might help.
