Looks like there is a bit of a node around 42.5gr. Zero sign of pressure so will go up in powder and see if there is another node. Will keep you posted. FYI, 43gr is max load in the Nosler reloading manual.

Ideally will get to 2600 which will give me plenty of reserves for 1800ft/s and 1000ft/lbs @ 400m which is pretty far for my 2.5 -10x scope and old eyes.

The box of Superformance 129gr SST Factory ammo I bought to get me onto zero, clocks 2618ft/s in the 16" barrel and head shot a goat today at 306m (+6 MOA) with it. Barrel has only 29 shots through so things will speed up and settle down around 200-300 shots.

Interesting @JaSa having a think about Super Performance or RL-26 Powder, Factory length barrel.

Problem with the ABLR might be that I can only get them within 0.200 of the lands in the Tika but most 6.5 CM like a 0.050 - 0.055 jump. In the Bergara it's no problem. Def something to be aware of. If I load them longer, the projectile is not sitting completely in the neck which is not ideal. The 143gr ELD-X would be okay but is too soft for close range I would suspect, that's why I thought a bonded projectile is more suited. Quality wise very good bullets when it comes down to ogive and weight.

Bit of an update.

Bought some Hornady dies, 143 gr ELD-X and my mate handed me a bunch of Hornady brass.

I loaded up some treat rounds at 42, 42.5 & 43 gr of AR2209

Great results with 42.5 & 43 gr both shooting under an inch at 100 mtrs.

No sticky bolt lift or overly flat primer at 43 gr so I settled on that load for the rifle

did you have to debur the primer pockets??? I have had to with any hornady brass,its almost like the factory is crimping the superpreformance factory loads.
great to hear you have got a result.

Typically I do debur all primer pockets but didn’t on this occasion and still achieved amazing results

Yes I agree. 48gr of RL26 pushing 143ELDX in my 18inch CM gave 2650fps half inch groups.

Yeh I’m just over that in a 20” for significantly more speed.

I was loading.20 thou jump at 2780 I think in a 20"

147 eldm I tried the 143 eldx and didn’t have as good results. Originally I was running 140 amax with great results.
Excuse the slow speeds, it’s a 22” gas gun and will start stamping extractor marks at 43.0g to 43.5g
The few animals I have shot with the 147’s were dropped on the spot.
I have some superformance to try when I get a chance to try and up the speed a bit.

First lot of 143 eldx. And 5 factory loaded 140 amax
I was a little disappointed but after only a small amount of mucking around I achieved the above results.

interesting - I don't have a Chrono so cant give speeds. I have 2x 6.5cm rifles, Ruger Precision 24" barrel, Ruger American Predator 22" barrel - both use a DPT mk2 suppressor
I load 143g ELDX, Hornady brass, 2209 @ 41.2g both shoot this load at sub MOA - best grouping of .3MOA

I'd try the 147ELDM but I suspect for bush hunting it wouldnt expand enough at close ranges and would blow through animals - they are supposed to be excellent for longer ranges though?

Generally, a bullet will expand more at higher impact velocities than it will at lower, so id say you'll have no problem with lack of expansion at close range, but likely the opposite.

Finished the load development for the 16" Creedmoor shorty:


Nice node around 42.7 - 42.9gr so went with the best group and lowest SD. Should give me plenty of room in summer when temperatures are higher to stay accurate. Another node (SD) around 44gr but couldn't make it group without investing a lot of time playing around with jump and it is on the hot side so left that one. Round count is around 75 now and barrel getting already faster which is nice.

Pretty happy with the load for a bush gun out to max 400m with the old 2.5 - 10x scope. AccuBonds LR should perform just fine as speed is 1870 ft/s at that distance and they expand down to 1300 ft/s. Also not extremely fast for close combat bush stuff so chance of exploding is very low. Time to find a couple of deer now and put theory and practice together ...
