6.5mm projectiles

Just wanting any advice anyone has on projectiles for a 6.5x55. Looking for an all-around hunting setup mainly deer, probablyl ooking at a 120 - 140 gr bullet. I was just going to use the hornady sst 140gr but have read that they can have problems with penetration? Recommendations if this is the case or not and any other options would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Not the case.

Try the 129 sst or Nosler 120 BT. I had best results on deer with the sierra 120 prohunter sp.

143 eldx work well and very accurate in my tikka handloaded.

I'm using 140 hot cores at the moment don't seem to expand on smaller animals tho and 123amax in my other 6.5 but I don't think they are making any more so ill probably switch to a sierra of similar weight

I've found 130gr SST's tend to fragment at close range -100 at high speeds. Further out they worked well.

Look at Swift 130's and Sierra Gameking 140s, good projectiles, drama free.

accuonds (not the LR kind) do the damage for me at the moment

The standard Hornady 140 grain interlock works well in the 6.5x55

Yep agree with all above, I'm using 140 Amax and 120 TTSX. Sierra GK are good and cheap and accurate as. I like the AB on deer also.
I'd do what I didn't do and buy one sort and stick to them as it's expensive doing loads up. Buy 143eldx off kiwi Greg. Cheaper

I think the 140gr sst would be a fine all rounder. I'm using 120gr pro hunters which are going well.

Thanks. It seems no one has had any problem with the sst apart from fragmenting at close range, have a heap of options now so will what i can get hold . thanks.

As long as you know the 123 gr pills were developed for the lower velocities of the 6.5 Grendel which is only 2500 give or take at the muzzle, hence the fragmentation

Accurate and dependable.

And they don't discontinue bullets that work that pisses me off when they do that

If you're not going to be shooting beyond 500 you would be hard pressed to beat the cheap old Hornady 129gr interlock.
36ish bucks per 100.
Accurate in most barrels and kill well.

Nosler partition 140gr for close in, Amax 140 for longer range.
