I found the same with Norma. Shoots awesome, 5 shot groups at 0.75MOA but slow. About 60 rounds down the barrel and averaging speed of 2840.
This is out of the bergara extreme 24" barrel.

I should also mention that the Hornady eld x Precision Hunter factory ammo is going 2880. So Norma is not the only one going slower than stated. Might speed up a bit in another 40 rounds
With new barrels I wont be surprised if you pick up 100fps after you’ve had 100ish rounds down them. If you can find some basic components it’s worth putting 100 through it (letting the barrel cool of course) and doing some practice getting used to the rifle. After that then start your real development
On the upside the bond strike killed well, Shot this fella yesterday at 25m, through the shoulder and exited, ran 10m before tipping over.

@Moa Hunter
I’ve stopped shooting hinds as they are starting to fawn….. so to the freezer he goes :P
And this one too, 140 amaxed at 200 yds, his mate had the good sense to bolt into the bush or he would have joined him too.

@Moa Hunter
I thought you were having a go about shooting a velvet stag…
Anyway, Free hand Head shooting is a last resort for me (missed more than I’ve made) Neck shooting in the bush is a favourite shot of mine when it presents itself, otherwise it’s the shoulder. The second one was in fading light and yes I could probably have drilled it in the neck as I had a good rest over my day bag but as I was a over an hour from the tent and a few hours up a valley from the truck, the money shot will do, there’s only so much my knees can take these days. There’s no shortage of deer around so I don’t need every scrap off them like 30yrs ago :D
you’ll be pleased to know I shot 2 a couple of weeks ago that were able to be recovered whole, I may need to ask Santa for another freezer :D
No, not worried about shooting those small rising two year stags, all power to you. I would of shot them myself, both runts that will never be a trophy.
I give away more than I keep, but I still like to bring out everything; otherwise how can I justify taking a life ? I am upset by young strong (should be) guys leaving half or more of the meat on the hill. Really it is hard to justify recreational hunting over commercial if rec hunters leave bodies laying around with one leg cut off as we see nowadays. Oh to be 30 again with all the deer around we see now !
Hi All If you want a real im provement in 6.5 cal the best one in my opinion is a 6.5-270wsm (they call it a 6.5-300 wsm as same case you cant use 7mm wsm cases as different lenght)
Dies are readily available and the brass is easy to make simply run a 270WSM case in the full length resizer and its done i dont do anything else with sub moa results...I use a 28in barrel and get 3300FPS with labrader with a 147 ELD-M my load is 70 gr RE33 FED 215 only use norma lapua or peterson brass not winchester or hornady as too soft
28" barrel? No thanks.
Id be interested to see what performance you'd get in a 20"
Hornady say 57.4gr is the max with H1000 and the 147gr ELD-M, for around 3000fps from a 26" barrel. Hodgdon say 56.5gr for 2830 from a 24". Then with the 153gr A-Tip, only 55gr for 2800.
There is no speed without pressure so if some of you are getting 3k with heavier bullets or with shorter barrels, I suspect you might be running into higher pressures than the back of the brass indicates.
I'm getting 3000 from a 26" using AR2225. I'm 0.7gr over "max" for 50fps less than max is supposed to give - so I'm happy it's not being redlined. Shoots bloody well too...

Anybody using superformance in their 6.5 prc? I'm sure I saw a post a while ago but can't find it.
Thanks @DBD I can't have looked very hard :ORLY:
Hi @Doon what brass are you using in your PRC? And where did you find data to start your load dev with?
I thinking to joint the prc club but not 100% on it yet. The current favourite shooter is a 22" 6.5 creedmoor which has done everything Ive asked for with 143's @ 2700fps. My ideal outcome will be to have a 20" or 22" that can do 153gr or 156gr @ 2950fps + without to much fuss. Is it realistic or just a dream?
In my 20" tikka I am using hornady brass.
I didnt have any published load data for superperformance but went on another members load.
I started at 55.6 gn in .2 inrcrements to 57.2.
From looking at my notes I loaded 129sst and 140sst.
I settled on 56.6 which gave me 2950 fps with the 140 sst and the same load with the 129sst produced just over 3000 fps.
The same load gave me 2950 with the 143 eldx, most groups were about 1/2 moa.
At 57 .2 of SP I got ejector swipe and heavy bolt lift, pressure can rise very quickly with this powder so be carefull especially on hot days.
Load development was over a magnetospeed v3
Thanks for that @Doon load data for Superformance is patchy at best which is a shame because it is such a good powder. I haven't got the rifle yet but once I do I'll be mucking around with some Superformance but haven't decided on projectile yet
Alright, I've joined the club. Looking forward to playing with a new caliber. Factory ammo to start so I can get used to it and build up some brass, reloading later.
Exciting is an understatement :P
So I've got 40 rounds already, Norma bondstrike ammo.
Powder I'll use 2217 or Superformance.
Projectiles I'm not 100 percent on yet, I've got @a box if 147 grain ELD-M and 50 140 grain Nosler BTs. No dies yet so I think I'll get another box of bondstrike next and then find some dies, so I'll have 60 ish pieces of fancey Norma brass from the get go. I'll get it threaded for a can at some point too.
My 6.5-284 (as close a cousin as you'll ballistically ) get to 6.5 PRC) build is coming together too, action arrives tomorrow, stock and barrel are in hand. I've also got cases and Superperformance ready to go. I've got a spare tub of SP if anybody needs some.
Haters gonna hate ha ha. Same can be said about the 7mm rem mag, you can get close with a 280ai or 284, maybe you can go higher, maybe you use slightly less powder, but at the end of the day they all do the same job and they do it well.
I'm excited to hook into a new caliber and I'll certainly share mu results, with factory for starters and some handloads later down the line.
I started another load for my 18" 6.5PRC. 147gr eld-M. The 143 eld-X are too hard to get now.
I tried two powders to start ( 2225 and RL26) and two primers with the 2225.
Looks like it'll shoot this bullet in good 100m groups with even a large powder variation.

I made a mistake trying something new. I used the 6.5 mandrel for the neck turner to size/true the new lapua case necks. This wasn't enough neck tension or consistent after chamfering and deburring (which i had some issues with and would have varied tension) the case mouth. I could feel a large difference when seating the bullets. This caused the poor velocity numbers. I was really only looking to find max charge/pressure not a velocity trend so it didn't matter really
I used the F/L sizer only on the 1x fired cases after this and the expander button as a mandrel on the rest of the new brass. There was more consistent bullet seating and higher velocity also.
Some follow up loads with 1x fired and some new brass.

I had issues this day getting the Magneto speed bayonet fitted tight/properly which cost me a few readings and a poor group for the 2225 57.5gr load.
The 57gr RL26 load was too much pressure for my liking even though it grouped well.
What max vol are you hoping to get with your top load of RL26.
I just ran a ladder test for pressure through my Creedmoor with the 140 targex and Hodgdon superprofrmance i got 2818fps at top top charge with no pressure although i wouldn't want to go any higher

@Roarless20, that's interesting. I'm using ADG brass with 147gr ELD-M's and Federal 210's. You've seen an onset of pressure signs with the same two powders I've used, at charges that were absolutely fine in mine (I even shot a competition with 57.5gr of Re26).
I'm picking the Lapua brass maybe has a fair bit less capacity? Have you measured case capacity by chance?
Good example of why to not get your load data from forums or skip doing the workup.
I took my brother-in-law from Aus out with me to shoot my follow up load tests a couple of days ago. We shot some test loads on paper with the 6.5prc and the .223 then out to 470m with the .223 before shooting 700m with the 6.5. A couple of young cats were shot right close to us while we were shooting the paper which was a bonus
i loaded up some of the 56gr RL26 fed210 147 eld-m load which i'll use to fire form the new brass. Also finished shooting a 2225 57.5gr load i didn't get time to shoot previously.

Much better velocity consistency and accuracy after correctly sizing the new brass necks this time. I'm happy with the RL26 56gr load accuracy with the magneto speed not attached. I wont bother doing a seating depth test with this load.
My Bro-i-law (a non-shooter but a natural) shot three of the 147gr rl26 56gr load at the gong at 702m after i had it on target (tricky tail wind over hill country) with the last of my old 143gr eldx loads.
Attachment 213149
The actual group size would measure less if you allow for the 0.1mil up click i dialed after his first two low hits (approx 0.3moa). I had my camera on the target so know exactly which hits on the gong are which.
I haven't measured the case capacity but I might when I get the time. I have a couple 2x fired lapua and 7x fired hornady to compare.
I'm running a suppressor which could be causing the earlier pressure? or I have a tighter chamber/barrel? I could shoot 57gr but don't want to trash the brass early as it is bloody expensive and hard to get.
Its a lightweight 18" barreled hunting rifle so don't really need the fraction more velocity of the hotter load. Even 2800 fps is more than i really need.
Mines pretty slow. 22" 2850 with 156 berger and 2217. Mt creedmore with 147eldm and 26" barrel is ballistically identical
MY 20" PRC is consistently 80 fps quicker across all weights (up to 143 grns) than my 21.5" 6x55. 57 grns of powder V 50.5 grns.
Correcting for barrel length the advantage for the PRC is circa 120 fps.
60gr h1000 for 2960fps with the 156eol ,ES of 9
