6.5x55 Barrel Length
I'm about to chuck down money on a GunWorks suppressor they have going for $517.50. I'm thinking of having my barrel length shorted so the suppressor is 5mm from the end of the stock.
Two things:
This would make my barrel 18" long With a 5" over hang so about 2" further forward then the standard barrel.
I don't have my chrony any more as I stopped using it and thus sold it. But what fps loss should I expect?
IIRC I was getting 2730 fps with 140gn Amax's
Note: I would like to be able to kill red deer to 300m, 400m would be nice.

The Hardy suppressor is only 4" forward, so that would give you 1" more barrel.
The 6.5 is very efficient and some times you actually gain a bit by adding a suppressor. And you could try a slightly faster powder to compensate for the shorter barrel.
You haven't said what the original length is but I reckon you could still push 2700 fps. I get 2800 with a 21.5" barrel using N560. If mine was 18" I would try IMR4831.

Thanks Tahr.
Talk about bad - I loaded up 100 rounds and wrote down what powder etc I used and have pretty much forgotten LOL!!! But I like the idea of faster powder.
Standard Tikka length is 21". If I can kill to say 400 with 18" I would be over the moon. As I seriously doubt my shooting skills past that (more like the spotlight doesn't reach any further :pacman: )
