    7 PRC Wild Data

Doing some research so I can reload for cousins new Tikka 7PRC.
Looking at the Duley articles written on the cartridge and comparing it to data from Hornady, for the two powders I’m going to try, Duleys have used 5 grains over book max Hornady data for 162 gr projectile.

What’s going on there? Have Hornady gone ultra conservative with their data. Seems crazy. I’m used to seeing people state 1-2 grains over book max but 5 grains doesn’t seem right.

Duelys have a reputation for running hot loads... seem to recall some of their published bushpig loads where well over bookmax as well. Use at your own risk, your face and rifle.

My personal experience is that the Hornady data tends to be pretty hot at the top end rather than conservative.

I talked to Greg about some rem mag in a Tikka, loads used 162 and 2225 he tested chamber pressure with a strain guage, and he found 2965 fps with a 20" was at maximum pressure 63,000psi. So was told to work towards that velocity rather than grains of powder or book max as some batches of 2225 he used 78 grn and others 74grn to achieve the same speed.

Does he list any loads with 2225 and 175 or 180 in shorter barrels?

This is 175 ELDX data in a 24” barrel at 65,000 psi pressure except for the Reloder 33 which was 63,000 psi

N570 looks good and about as expensive and hard to find as RL26

Yes, I know someone who uses it and gets very good velocity.

saw the price of N570 and decided fuck that I don't need the extra FPS it's not that much more and even at 2900fps a 180gn eldm is plenty to a long way out

I’ve been working up a load for my new tikka 7mm PRC with a 22” barrel, have landed on 2217 for both a 162 and 180 ELDM, both with a charge of 68gr of 2217, could load more for the 162 easy enough but it’s got plenty of power for what I need that round to do, 2804fps with the 162 ELDM and 2824FPS with the 180 ELDM, both are above Hornady book max but I don’t believe I’m in any form on dangerous pressure with absolutely no pressure signs at all.. happy with them, 5 round groups to follow but my initial groups in the ladder were exceptional despite being loaded at different charges, 7 round group with varying charges of 2217 and 180 eldm came in at .75 MOA and the 162 3 round ladder of varying charges came in at 0.135 Moa group so I’m hoping for very good groups at those charges.. running ADG brass for anyone who wants to have a play with a similar load

Thanks I'll be using ADG brass and either 2217 or 2225 as I have 4kg of this.
I've got 168ABLR to try as well as 162 and will get 180eldm which is what I used last time.

I have a decent stash of N570 that's gathering dust. I might be persuaded to part with.
