Would a 75 amax stabilise in 1-8 twist 23 inch barrel in 222 Remington?
Sometimes
Useful answer.
I cant see why not? I believe 1in8 223's stabilise them so a 222 should, only one way to find out
They maybe to long for the mag
Depends on the gun and depends on the mag.
About 15 years ago, I remember seeing a particular rifle in Scotland in 218 bee ackley improved shooting 80 gr Smk under 1 moa at 600 yards . You just need the right barrel twist and throat to achieve it.
Will give it a crack and report back.
Use this formula to see if its feasable. If the bullet speed is over 2800 fps 180x bullet diameter squared/ bullet length = twist, if speed is below 2800 replace 180 with 150.
This (the greenhill formula) and works for any copper and lead core bullet. Sometimes a bullet starts out stable but as speed drops precession sets in and no hits on target.
Forgot to mention all measurements need to be imperial
Ha ha. I think you will have @Ginga lost with the first function.
Ho ho jimmy!
If he was an "islander" he'd have enough extra fingers to work it out, the rest of us have to use a calculator.
Rightio gentlemen and kiwijames. My calcs give me 8.17 assuming no less than 2800fps so as always I'm on the edge. Length of bullet used was 1.105 inches. Sound right?
i've got 0.9 inch on Strelok data base
