I'm having trouble finding high B.C bullets (.600+) for my 7mm that are suitable for hunting with. They all seem to be target rounds and either explode on impact or just drill holes. Any help would be appreciated.

Not happy with a 162 Amax?
What ranges are you typically shooting your deer at?
I was going to use those, but I was told that they wouldn't penetrate. I'm wanting them to be reliable on deer out to about 800m. Thats why I'm asking on here, to see what others have found works. :)
I couldn't get A-maxs to shoot as there was to much jump for magazine lenght and didn't want single feed.
I tried Accubonds and found them to hard on anything but Sambar and Thar.
So have settled on 150gn Ballastic Tips and now very happy.
Longest shot so far is 478yds with them and closest 120yds
Bang flop..
95% of the time they have gone straight through both shoulders on the deer I have shot at 500 - 600 yards.
Good exit holes as well, should work well for you?
168 VLDs
Never had an issue with 162gr amax's from 10m out to 600m+ on goats, reds, fallow, chamois and tahr...
Sniper80,
You mention high BC projectiles, Give the 162 A-Max (.625 G1 BC) a go if you can, I dont think you will find a better (.600+) high BC hunting projectile for your rem mag. The Berger 168 VLD (.617 G1 BC) has a lower BC and due to its extra weight is usually slower in the FPS department. But if your rifle likes the 168 then use it.
Shootm"s suggestion to use the 150g Nosler BT (.447 G1 BC) is a goodie, their short little Ogive radius means they can shoot accuratly in a variety of rifles, and they are deadly on light thin skinned game, like our skinny summer Sika:thumbsup:
We all know BC data can vary with its source, making it less of a determining factor at times, so hopefully your rifle will work well with the projectile of your choice.
When you find a projectile with the velocity and accuracy necessary to kill at the ranges you want to use it at then practise, practise and when you think your good enough to kill animals at range then practise some more.
High BC projectiles are great for helping to eliminate the negative effects of wind, and reading the wind is a tough one, sometimes I think only time on the hill busting rocks/targets can help with wind estimations, and even then im not that good.
Familarity has helped me a lot, most LR possies we sit in I have been using since 1985, and a couple from the age of 7-10 with my father using an old 308. The point with this ramble is this, we know when we sit in possie "X" that we have a 910yrd shot, 17 deg uphill, morning 3mph R to L breeze, saum is pushing the 162 a-max at 3080fps. In the afternoon its 3mph L to R so either way we have approx 8-10 inches of wind drift, and when we think we have none, we dont !!!!! there's still a sneaky 3-4 inches of drift in the obvious direction, no doubt borne from a slight air current at the top of the projectiles flight path. So we know what to expect, and after filming a lot of dead rocks, and deer, we know what to expect from our wind blown projectile.
So at the end of the day, be it a Ballistic Tip, A-Max or VLD that gets flung out there, as long as theres the accuracy and velocity we want, and with quality gear to get it on target, only the wind seems to be the single biggest obstacle to work through to put venny on the BBQ, which makes it all good fun.
Best of luck with your choice sniper80, theres quite a few very talented guys on this forum, keep asking questions, and like me you will be learning every time you log on.
Rem mag and A-Max

Two 160g Accubonds are there for bush bambis:thumbsup:
BullTahr has some 7mm bullets that might fit the bill. Have a yarn to him.
Thanks for the thoughts and insights guys. A great site for getting info and learning. I'll get some A-max's loaded up and see how they go.
I'm used to long-range hunting (400-700m) with my .270, so I know about wind:O_O: One time I was shooting across a gully, I had a 15k L-R wind, 550m shot so I doped the scope. Just as I was about to pull the trigger I realized the bush on the other side was blowing R-L. Ended up aiming dead on and got a clean kill...tho not exactly where I wanted it.
I've just got my 7mm and it puts great little holes in paper> I just want to know the pill is going to do the job when it gets there:)

162gr A Max works for me! Fallow at 200yrds, dead, 7mm entry, 40mm exit wound. Goats at 475 yards, dead. Still in the process of trajectory validation so can not comment on performance past 475yrds.
Seated .040" off lands, still fit in the mag.
Cheers
Hi guys, the new rifle is going great. I'm still developing a load for the 162g A-max, but its looking good so far.
Hi guys,
I spent this last weekend playing around with my 7mm, trying to get a hotter load. I'm aiming for 3000fps from a 24" barrel tikka varmint.
I'm resonably green at re-loading so I have some ques.
I started with working up a load using ADI 2213sc (the powder I had recommended). The max load recommended is 64g. I got up to 64.5g, but I'm only getting 2800fps. I had no pressure signs, but I was worried about pushing it further.
I then borrowed a bottle of Vihtavuori N560 and worked up a load with that. I got significantly more muzzle blast, but I did get to 2930fps using 69g and had a nice .6" group.
All loads were loaded to Mag length 85mm and the there was still powder room inside.
Afterwards I found that V N560 and ADI 2213sc have the same burn rate??
My questions are
Do I keep pushing the ADI powder? I would like to use it as it is cheaper and easier to get. Also I am not a big fan of the muzzle blast I get with the V N560.
Would shortening the OAL lower the pressures and allow me to push further? I'm not getting any pressure signs as yet.
Should I try another powder ie ADI 2217? I have been told its a waste of time in a 24" barrel.
Thanks guys
Try AR2225. I get 3100fps pushing 154SSTs, and 2970fps pushing 162SSTs. Launched from a T3 lite in 7mmRM. If you don't like the muzzle blast, make sure you never get a muzzle brake fitted. I can supply the exact load details if you want. In my experience it is not unusual to exceed ADI listed max loads in 7mmRM. Their data seems to be all over the place for this catridge. In all my considerable years of reloading this would be the exception though.
I've had good results with AR 2225 and Reloader 25 in my 26 inch barrelled 7mm Rem Mag. I would try either AR 2225 or AR 2217 as most people seem to get good results with these powders pushing 160 grain plus bullets in the 7mm Mag, perhaps 2217 may be better in a 24 inch barrel than 2225?
N560 will give you the juice you are after..............it seams expensive but you get twice as much 1kg tin not 500grams at 170 its not that bad
Just gunna push in here I've just picked up a 7mmRM and have a 100 swift scirrocos 150's, I have 2213sc and 2217 does anyone have any loads using these combos? would be nice to get 3000fps will not be shoooting past 500 yds. I have gone up to 70 gns of 2217 with 154 hornys and no pressure signs so far.
Judging by the results I've had so far, in a 24" barrel the 2213sc is better....especialy with the lighter pills.
