    7mm Rem Mag Projectiles

OK, I have a Zastava in 7mm Rem Mag with a 260mm-10.25" twist rate that I need to set up and work out a load for. There is a full packet of 162gn A-Max sitting there but I gather they are no longer made so might be better to go with something else to work up a load for and flick these off. What suggestions do you lot have? Want something for the odd gong shoot and maybe a bit of hunting, really just a toy to play with because today ends in a 'Y'.

Amax have been replaced by eld-x and elf-m. Use the amax and substitute one of the eld when the box is finished. Load development will be pretty similar.

hey @stug , do you know much about the difference between eld-x and eld-m ? is the m a match projectile and the x a game projectile?
has the amax production already been stopped?

The eld-x 162 is a different projectile to the amax. Its .055 longer , mostly in the bearing surface. I think you might struggle with a 10.25 twist. I ran a few through my 10 twist 280ai which is very good with the old amax but results were not flash and even if they had worked the lack of stability would knock the BC way down which in turn defeats any advantage they might have had.
Id look at the 150gr nosler balistic tip.

Yep to all. Not all a-max production has stopped. Pretty sure some of the 30 cal like the 168gr a-max will continue, but the .284 162gr amax has stopped. They are also making a 175gr eld which could be quite good, if your rifle will stabilise them.

Yes please. That would make the load development worthwhile.

IMO the 162 amax/eldm is the perfect projectile for the 7mmRM, makes the most of its grunt and the most of the 7mm's BC capabilities.

With normal twist rates Id agree but Gadgets 10.25 is going to be marginal at best even with the standard amax. Two issues there, while its possible for the combination to group well (sometimes very well) at 100 yds, further out as the velocity bleeds off you can get major flyers. Also full value BC depends on full stability, as stability falls so does the BC.
