    7mmRM project

    Ok team,

So this rifle isn’t new to the forum as I brought off another lad one here. His thread from 2016 didn’t really amount to much so I am hoping to get some fresh information to help shape what I do next. (And to check that what I am looking at all adds up)

What is the rifle: Rem 700 XCR 2 7mmRM

    What gear do I have:
Brass - Winchester, norma and misc. (will just stick with one)
    Powder - AR2225
Primer - Fed .210 (trying these as I have been told it may reduce extreme spread)
    Projectile - 162 ELD X

Rife OAL cap = 93.48mm (from what the last owners notes say)
Current rounds sit at 85mm overall length. (Just under 10% reduction)
    Bullet comparator reads 68mm
    Land marks;

Disclaimer: I realised after I purchased that it only has a 22” barrel + a DPT can. So I understand that I will loose around 100fps from the stock 24” which likely means I wont hit 3000fps or have the longer 800m+ stability of the projectile.

    Aim: Is to hit 2850-2900fps, and group 1 MOA +/- @ 100m

Intent: Use rifle mainly for 300-700m with good “boom flop” on Reds.

    Information requirements/talking points:

Can someone please provide me with the Hornady/Powder tolerances and average fps, I believe its measured off a 24” barrel so I will take 100fps off until I get my hands on a chronograph.

It looks like 73.5gr of AR2225 was used in the past but with quite a large deviation (2850-2900fps) was achieved, which would explain slightly larger grouping.
I’m hoping that if I tighten up the tolerances in hand loads (inc. prep/trimming), that I can hit 2900fps with 74gr and Fed .210 primers (vs .215) and keep good MOA accuracy. Will work from 73gr up to max recommended. Otherwise I guess 2860fps +/- will have to do.

What are peoples experience with this sort of set up?

Should I just bite the bullet and get a 24” barrel?

Would it be worth while dropping the the projectile weight to get the fps and or nah? (Understanding that fps doesn’t = accuracy over distance)

Note: Already have a 7mm08 hitting 2770fps, sub MOA with Nosler BT 140gr. So I want better kinetics past 300m.

    Cheers in advance.

    HK
