7mmSaum Load Ratio in Model 7

With Norma 7saum brass can go up to 67.5gn 2217 with 150gn LRABs @ 2.830 COL. Problem is the L/R is over 113% giving a very compressed load resulting in marked projectiles from the seating die.

Ran powder options through Quickload and looks lije H414 RE17 and even 2209 can perform better than 2217 with no heavy compression.

Any one running these powders in their Saum?

I was running 65gr 2217 with 162 amax in my 7SAUM (2.230" base to ogive measurement), I loaded a few up to 67gr. I used 65gr 2213sc with 140gr accubonds (loaded to fit mag). Didn't try the other powders.

I like the 150gn LRAB as a "do all" round, and want mag length so think an alternative to 2217 mightve preferable...

If you have to compress loads that much I would consider the powder is too slow.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

Yeah mag length limits case capacity a bit. How does 2213sc stack up? I was getting 3044fps with 65gr 2213sc and the 140 accubond with the factory 22" Model 7 barrel.

    Sounds similar to my 7mmRM. 70gn 2213sc for 3063 150gn BT.

    2213 looks pretty good actually...the L/R is 104% with 63gn indicating 3023fps @ 61502psi.

Had good results with 2209, 56gr was best in my rifle. Am now using RL19. 59 gr. Is compressed a bit. Both with 160 NABs

I run 67.5gr of 2217 with the 162 Amax at a Coal of 2.962" for 3008 fps from standard 22" barrel. Shoots well there, its def warm load in my rifle. (single feed)

I run 150gr SGK as a mag fit load at a coal of 2.795" with 67gr of 2217 for 3005 fps. Both these shoot to the same poi at 100 yards which is well handy. I tried this 150 SGK load with 2209 but couldnt get it to shoot as well. The SGK at that speed with 2217 in mine shoot tiny little groups.

The other mag fit do it all bullet is the 150 NBT, i run them at 2970 from my 22" barreled 284 win and they have killed well from 25 yards to ranges beyond where they hold 1000 ft lbs of energy.

    60.3gn of 2209 is only 101.1% L/R and 3000 fps @ 62191psi

Do you mark the projectiles when seating to mag fit? Which make is SGK?

Nope, no marks to be seen. The powder doesn't rattle tho, so must be close to compressed if it's not slightly. No issue with keeping coal consistent tho.

Yeah ok I use it as mag fit spook and shoot. If taking a longer shot plenty of time to single feed a Amax in.
