    9.3x62 loading

I have a good load for my Husky 1600 in 9.3x62, with 285 grain PPU round noses doing 2380 fps, which will do anything I need a 9.3 Mauser for, I reckon.

But, it depends on the availablility of AR2209 which is off and on nowadays, (mostly off)

I rediscovered my notes from a previous Husqvarna 9.3x62 I had a couple of years ago, where I loaded up some PPU RN 285's with 48 grains of AR2207 (same as H4198). AR2207 always seems to be available, in the shops. It shot very well, lighter recoil and got me 2200 fps, which is still quite good - its what the cartridge did in 1905 anyway.

So I made some more and tried them in my current 9.3 Mauser, and they shot just as well, for a slower velocity - 2020 fps. Well, slower is not the end of the world, its what a 9.3x57 does with teh same bullet, so I dont mind. I could put some more powder in and get it up to 2200 fps again anyway...

So all fine then. But, for the life of me, I can't recall how I came up with that load of 48 grains of 2207 / H4198 behind a 286 g bullet in a 9.3x62 Mauser. I have no idea where it came from. I can't find anything close on the net (mostly just low speed cast lead loads that use H4198) and I wonder if I extrapolated it from the 9.3x74? Or started with a 9.3x57 load and adapted it from there? I cant find it in old load books...buggered if I know what inspired me to try it.

I mean I can think up stuff for myself, but I wouldn't just try a random powder in a cartridge will nothing to base it on. I mean, I have used 2207 / H4198 in big bores before, like the 45-70 etc. I just cant find anything about using it in the 9.3x62. I dont beleive it will have much pressure behind it, the recoil is low too, I am fairly sure there is nothing to worry about.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? H4198 in a 9.3x62?
