Thread: ADI Handoaders Guide Issues

I have a 2004 version of the ADI handloaders guide.
Just happened to be looking at the latest version and there are MANY big differences in the loads listed.
Some of the pistol data is 20% LESS in the current version.

My assumption is that the online info would be the most recent?

You can imagine my reaction when I look up a 160gr pill using 2217 in my 7mm Rem Mag and it reads 66gr max - yet my load is 72gr.

Book loading data is "lowest common denominator", I basically use it as a rough starting point and make up my own loads now.



Countdown to someone telling me I'm horrifically unsafe and I'll blow my face off (I don't have a speed-boner like crzyman so it's unlikely that I will)

More lawyers= More dumbing down, and that goes for everything they have a hand in, luckily we don't have the ambulance chasers like in the US and Aussie.............

Some of the 300 Rum Data is miles out.....
When you look at the Hodgens site it is obvious why, they used Barnes bullets on some loads, but don't mention that on the ADI site......

There seems to be no conistancy.

Old book 45ACP loads way hotter than current - to the point I'll get Gimp to shoot them off for me
Old book 9mm loads way softer than current

Like they have changed powder brews a little and not told anyone.

The 300 RUM 2218 loads are about right - 2225 waaaaaaaaaay off

2225 is a bitch.
I did some load development with my new 338 Norma mag in the weekend.
I had 1 pottle that had a different batch number on it so I used that.
I had nearly used it all so I had settled on a load & then broke open the next pottle.
New powder is too hot with same weight, gained 40-50 fps...Bugger now I have 20 to pull & reload with 1 or 2 grains less.
I have some Retumbo so I guess I will have to check that as well.....

Agree with the comment about the Hogdon site, heaps more loads to choose from there, and easier to use.

Thats good to read, i started my 9mm loads at 4.5 gr of ap70n, 18inches high at 25 mt, couldnt handle the recoil, dropped down to 4.0 gr, totally different gun! what does the old book say for 9mm 115gr bullet ap70n? i'd be interested to know....

Old book says 5.0gr with 115gr as MAX

I'm shooting about 4.8gr (or is it more?) of AP70N in my 9s with 124gr costed lead proj

Havnt put them over the chrony
They're warm - 2k + and no probs yet lol

The ADI reloading hand book is only a very ruff guide and most people that have used it know its out most of the time on what you end up with.

This is an old thread, but found it while trying to sort a load for my 9mm CZ. Using 124gn Heavy Plated bullets and AP70N. I started and 3.8gn and only got 675fps and of course gun that didn't cycle. Jumped up to 4.3gn, but then had some crony issues. Will shoot these at the range along with some 4.5gn loads. I've NOT crimped any of these.

I've read plenty on AP70N with 124gn bullets and some folk are stating they are starting at 3.8 or 4.0 and getting Minor Power Factor, yet I'm struggling. What gives?

i use ap50 , 3.7 grains with 124 lead .... gives me 1140 0n average
