Anyone loading 7mm Rem Mag using 175 EDL-X and N560?

    Afternoon

I have been loading 162 AMax for years using N560 obtaining very good velocities and accuracy from this powder. Fallen at last to Hornady's marketing and just picked up a box of 175s to play with and am interested to see if anyone else is loading this combo and any suggestions for a starting load. I have the Vihtavouri app and obviously can use that info, however my loads for the AMax are quite a bit above what is in the app.

    Cheers

    AMac

N560 might be a little fast burning for the 175 ELDX in the rem mag.

I've used AR2213sc and 2217 with the 175 ELDX and got better results velocity wise with the 2217. Both gave good accuracy but the speed just wasn't there with the slightly faster burning powder. Like 2700 to 2800 fps with 2213 and up around 2950 fps with 2217 with good accuracy.

    Hope that's helpful

I’d be going with a slow burn powder, like @GWH has mentioned or RL25 or 2225.

Thanks guys - N560 tis all I have to play with at the moment. Will give it a go at the range this weekend with a starting point >10 grains lower than I have been loading up the Amax and increase in .5gn increments and see how I get on.

N560 did get the 162's moving - 3150 before I had the barrel cut back to 22" and a DPT added, this saw a drop back to 3100. But those loads no longer relevant cause they too hot using a new batch of powder. Those 175's have much longer bearing surface than the old AMax so caution would seem to be a good idea.

I’d try what you have and if no good I know my mate is using 2225 with the 175s. Failing that maybe something like Rel 26

You could start around the same load data at you own risk for the 175 berger elite. They have n560 in there data so i couldnt see why it wouldnt work.

I did have these at mag length in my A7 (3.340") I think Tikka is 3.36? Only tried with 2225 and got around 2800fps with 70.5 grains at that length. 24" barrel again.

Cool, ill keep that in mind for future tinker. Pretty happy with 162eld x load even if not entirely comfortable seating deeper to suit mag.

I have been running 162 Amax's seated out that I single feed and 160 Sierra Game Kings the fit in the T3 mag for spook n shoot. Thought I would give the 175's a go on a fit in the mag basis and so I use just one load - Amax's are a bit messy up close and I liked the idea of trying out either a 175 or 180. So went to the range last weekend aiming to do a ladder test using the info Tim Dicko provided as a starting point. But had a wee bit of a cock up - checked that I had a 9 volt battery before I left - yup brand new in the wrapping they come in. Set the crono up, put in the new battery switch it on and dead as a door nail Battery no good - brought a couple more when I got home and every thing worked.

Anyhow had a bunch of Amax's that I had seated to fit the mag - 4 groups average 0.88 was kinda ok.

I was having a bit of an issue getting my scope to focus properly which I put down to a side effect of the cataract surgery I had down earlier in the year - I now have fantastic long vision but need to use $10 super market glasses to read /type etc. Anyhow like a complete numb nut I tried to sort the focus out via adjusting the ocular lens with not much improvement cross hairs very blurry on the target. Before shooting my last group I adjusted the side parallax a bit more and bugger me days picture perfect sharp focussed cross hairs and a 0.6 group !! I be happy with that as a mag fit - was out of these loads by that time so couldn't shoot any more. All a bit of a disaster all round really but had a bit of fun and always some good keen guys at the range to have a chat too.

So will be going back to the range as soon as we come out of level 3 - fingers crossed.
