So I was slowly surfing the web this afternoon, and came across Hodgdon web site which lists a load data for Titegroup of :

Anyone here done it before ? Sounds (ho ho ho) like a fun load to play around with. There's loads of other forum posts in the US from 2008, but hoping for a spot of something more recent.

3.1g in a 223 case would only 1/4 fill it
Thats a colossal air gap to promote inconsistent velocity
Id rather use trail boss and 3/4 fill the case
Had a bit of a play with trail boss in the 223 but couldn't get it to shoot subsonic. Didn't really preserver though.
May i ask why bother? Use the winchester 22 42gr subs?
Was thinking of making up some 308 sub loads with some Titegroup if anyone has tried this I'd be interested how they got on?

If I had the brains lol. There's AS30 data for 1060fps for 3.2gr, was just wondering on the Titegroup as I may need to move onto it for pistol anyway.
Got some 200gr roundnose projectiles for the 308, yet to load them up with trailboss and get a subsonic load sorted
@Kscott. Be careful with load density (the proportion of powder in the case). If there is too much air space in the case you can (apparently) run the risk of detonation. That is the powder lying flat in the case and when fired, instead of burning consistently through the powder column, it burns much faster back and forth across the surface creating much greater pressures. I have not ever heard of it happening but it may be worth a bit of research. Some people use dacron to fill the case and keep the powder in a column against the primer. @223nut. I have a subsonic 200gn load for my 308 using 10.2gn of Trail Boss. (16" bbl). Shoots really well.

Detonation if it happens is with reduced charges of slow burning powder in big cases, small charges of pistol powder in a .223 may not be very accurate but it won't detonate a pinch of dacron will improve the accuracy 3-5 grains
of AS30 burn rate powders work ok in .22Hornet .222 and .223 just need to play around and see what works best, be careful not to get a bullet stuck in the barrel they are a bastard to remove unless they are cast bullets,
For reduced loads not subsonic Hodgdon recommends a 60% load of H4895/AR2206H, I have used 25 grains of AR2206H with a cast 151 grn HP bullet in my .308 velocity is around 1800fps depending on barrel length.
Thanks for that. I didn't realise it had anything to do with the powder burn rate. I thought it was purely down to too lower load density regardless of the burn rate.Quote:
