Anybody tried this stuff? Any good?
I used there own manufactured 55 grain sp for years until I caught the reloading bug. It shot well in my Remington bolt action think it held around 1 inch at 100. Used it on goats with good effect.
I've been using their products for the last 37 years. They're a good reputable company with a proven history. Their .223 loads are perfect for goats.
@300_BLK have you ran it over a Chrony?
Shot my first fallow with it, perfect mushroom.
Iv found this accurate on paper and deadly on goats though my Tikka. Needs some more actually. Got no need for 1000 rounds but anyone round Christchurch or Otago keen on going 3rds? cheaper than a 250 pack but get 330 rounds?
Used it for years culling goats, fallow and the odd wild pig, never had an issue from the mini 14 or howa
Can't go wrong with the Hornady 55 gr SP in 22 cal. Have shot a few over the years, never any problems accurate and reliable ammo.
Anybody know the drop on these at 100, 200 and 300 yards or meters ? Just picked up a box for goat mission next week and google has proved less than helpful
Ok I have to chime in on this ammo. It in recent years has suffered from a lot of case head seperations.
Of I remember the discussion from another forum it's was to do with the use of once fired milsurp brass or something similar. I don't think there's as much of an issue with Bolt actions but a few of my mates all went in on a 1000 rounds and each had case head separations. Also the hunting and fishing stuff had the same issue in mine and my brothers ARs and I believe it's the same stuff.
Well the Belmont 223 55g soft points I bought from gunworks seem to go pretty bloody good I put about 20 rounds through the bergara scout no misfires no case problems and seems to group pretty bloody well. The brass is ADI if that makes any difference and the projectiles are hornandy 55g soft points according to the box.
Photo indicates a 3 shot group @100m I was aiming 1" low or there abouts and @ 3xzoom I'm no sniper or sharp shooter but that's good enough for me.
The 223 cartridge in the picture is for scale...... And yes I stuffed the 3rd shot as my phone rang whilst I was taking it (note to self take phone out of pocket next time)

Have used heaps over the years. I used both the Hornady 55gr & the Lapua 55gr they did. Lapua was a tougher bullet, heavier jacket. It ran well through both bolt & rattle gun, never had any issues. Belmont used to have a sale occasionally on their seconds, slight marks on the case down graded, went bang just like their 1st grade and just as accurate. Used to be the most cost effective ammo to buy, but like most things it's gone up a lot in price over the years.
