thanks for all your advice guys. Sounds like a lot of recommendations for Hornady 150gr SST so might give that a try. Nice and easy being able to buy something factory loaded without the sako price.

    Greetings All,
Just about anything will work but I would consider the 150 grain round nose Hornady with a reduced charge of AR2206H say 42 grains. From tests I have seen the round nose opens up to lower velocities but are still likely to go all the way through on broadside shots. I used the flat nose 150 grain on goats at one stage which worked very well.

Would be using alot of different bullets before I used SSTs. I have never had issues with remington corelokts or fed blue box stopping small or big animals. A guy I hunt with who has shot more sika than most people have had hot dinners uses 168eldm/amax with remington 150 corelokts as a backup. Never has issues recovering animals.

For sika and fallow I personally use 165gr speer hcsp reloads(fed blue box) and factory 150gr remington corelokts. Took advice from @7mmsaum and invested in 150gr nbt as they will do everything.

I have heard their performance can vary from caliber to caliber. Never used them myself.
As a cheap factory load 150gn Remington Corlok work. Not even sure if you can still buy them. I have mostly used handloads in the 308 and found the 125gn Nosler Accubond at just under 3000fps were good killers on Sika sized animals inside 100m.

Anything I’ve ever poked a .308 hole in hasn’t walked away. Mixture 130-150 mainly, 180 couple of times. Holes in the right place helps as well.

I use the 150gr sst and can’t fault it at 308 speeds. I have also used the Berger 155 VLD hunting projectile and it is brilliant even pushed out of faster 30 cals.

Almost all of my shots at sika are close range out to about 100m max. Being a small animal i find traditional 150gr soft point ammo doesnt expand as much as i would of hoped and they quite often run a fair distance before dropping which makes it hard to find them in dense bush.

Ive heard a lot about sako blue tip 308 rounds that expand a lot quicker when they hit the target but shit they know how to charge!!!
I have a friend that reloads so thought if there was something out there you think will perform much better than factory soft point let me know.

    Cheers

Hey mate, if wanting factory. try the Winchester 130gr "Varmint" as they are loaded with 130gr woodleighs so wont explode, or the OSA/Buffalo river/Aussie outback 130gr as its loaded with 130gr sierra HPBT game kings. If reloading and oyu want quicker expansion just load any 125-130gr softpoint. i would be wary of the Sako blue tip as its a Barnes TTSX (hence the price) and they are a lot harder than a regular softpoint and way overkill for Sika, but the plastic tip propably helps them open. if you wanna go heavier say 150 plus and want quicker expansion id go hornady sst or any other plastic tip cup and core

As others have said, almost anything will work as long as its not designed for elk or buffalo or bears.
Me, 35 years shooting Sika with 125's - 130 gn projos. Cheaper and flatter shooting out to my max of 300 for those light weight bullets.

    +1 on the Speer 130g HP's.
