    Best powder?

Hi guys, I've looked but can't find so please what the closest substitute for say R17? To use in the .284 for 140 - 162. Have 2213sc and R19, was told 2209 is probably the closest to R17? R17 is a prick to find and I can't see things changing anytime soon.

I changed to R19 (found some cheep) in my 7mm saum and 708 when the 17 ran out. Have found it as good but a bit bulkier (will be a crunch unless you tube it) 2209 which I believe is the same as H4350 also good .I have 2213sc (same as H4831 I believe) on hand but havnt tried it in the 7mms (it going good in my sons 270wsm) The ADI powders a lot easier to find.

Just throw this out there. Availability could be the biggest thing. When Obama won, the ammo situation went haywire and Ar's etc tripled in price. Next year we will see Obama's replacement and that will probably be Hilary Clinton who I'd suggest the rabid right detest more than the "black Kenyan muslim" they have had to put up with for 6.5 years. I have to wonder what that will do to prices here and availability. So if it was me I'd suggest sticking to a powder from ADI as its most likely to remain available?

Careful. Only Hodgdon H4895 is exactly the same. The rest are equivalents only, not the same powder, and as such some care needs to be taken if swapping to them. In some cartidges you will get away with same loads, others maybe not so any change requires the standard working up of loads particularly if your current powder load is edging towards max.
    2209 is also H4350
H414 is now also WW760 although if you have old lots of 760 they are not the same
    2208 is also Varget
2206H is also H4895 as above
2206 is mildly different to 2206H

I just run these numbers myself today for the 139 SST in my .284 through Quick Load. RL 17 wins out with W 760 a close second then a little bit back was N540. Through your 20 inch barrel QL is suggesting 2980 with a top load but 2900-2950 would be more realistic. My .284 has a 28.7 inch barrel and I hope to get 3250. That too may well be unrealistic. I guess I will find out tomorrow.
