Hey guys,
Soon to be returning home and am contemplating bringing back some brass with me. I've had a build in my mind for some time now and I've all but talked myself into it. However, the only issue was the shortage of brass but I have just recently found a good supply over here and at a very reasonable price per bag.
Can I put it in my checked luggage? Is it easier to send it back home?
What are the legalities here? Customs in NZ?

Its not a weopon,explosive or fruit go for it.
I went through 3 international airports and when I was due home before going through the 3 main airports found live ammunition at the bottom of my pack so I left the ammo in the other country I was in.:wtfsmilie:
Brass should be ok, I carried a live round of .41 rim fire in from the states once, declared at the airport and was asked if I was carrying something that could fire it on me, answered no and was told to put it in my pocket and get on the plane!
Just got some 28 gauge brass coming from the states and it will arrive in the post.
Put it in your checked luggage, no issues.
Declare it when checking in? Or just pack it and forget about it so to speak.Quote:

All my projectiles are hand carried out of the US, no problems and have been for last 10 years.
Although my brother did baulk at 6000, 125gn 9mm HPs for my race gun a while ago, took him 3 trips to bring em all home and then I sold the gun. Much prefers is when I order .224 cal. :)
The declared line at the airport normally moves faster anyway
I brought home about 300 pieces of Brass, 400 odd projectiles and a heap of other reloading equipment when I came home from Canada (through San Fransico) with no worries. The brass was in pelican case that also had a rifle in it. They were not fussed at either airport. What I did get held up on was my new pair of RCBS dial calipers which were in my carry on, aparently they could be used as a weapon. They did let me post them home so all good there, even the security guy said it was a bit of a joke. Gotta love the Canadians.
I have had numerous lots of projectiles posted to me without any trouble as well.
One thing to note is DON'T TAKE ANY OF THAT STUFF THROUGH AUSTRALIA! They will confiscate all of it, wankers. My mate was coming to visit me in NZ via Australia and was bringing over some more projos and a set of dies. The Australian customs guys got real angry with him when they saw it in the scanner and took all the gear but the dies, which they almost took as well. Anything gun related and they flip out.
If you're coming from the states just bear in mind that brass is ITAR regulated...
Went in to the post office earlier today - postage costs are next to nothing.
I'll think about how many cases I want to order and what postage costs will work out to etc - gives me something to ponder over for a few days yet.
