Just starting to reload for a rem mag and can't decide whether to go with 162 eldx or the 175 eldx.
Any thoughts to help the decision?
Cheers.

Your barrel twist & maximum COAL will probably make that decision for you. Unless your happy to single feed & your rifle has a 1:8.5 or thereabouts twist, then you will probably have to go with the 162.
A 168 vld hunting falls right between. The 175 will come into its own after 500m, a 162 will do just about the same thing up until 400-500m I think. Barrel twist will be an issue, however you can go on Berger’s website and use their calculator, hornadys 4dof app has a stability calculator aswell. I have 180 eld-m stable in a 1:8.7 twist, a 1:9 twist will supposedly stabilise a 195 grain berger elite hunter according to their website
162 g every day
140gr nobler partition. Shoots like a laser
What are you going to use it for?
I have got those for the 7mm/08, thought they might be a bit light.
The rifle is 9:5 twist, 24 inch barrel, I am leaning towards the 162's, will they stabilise in this barrel?
That should be1:9.5
The rem mag historically ran a 1:10 twist with a 140 -160 grain bullet so a 162 in a 1:9.5 twist should be stable. Should get real close to 3 grand or a tad over with the right powder and a 162 out of a 24” barrel
Thanks for the feedback decided to go with the 162's.
AGAIN...what do you intend to use it for??? what size animal at what range????
sub 300 yards no need for fancy projectiles, light animals you need to balance it carefully, too soft= shot to bits, too hard will pinhole through.... big animals just as bad..range is big consideration too.
150gn Partitions for up close out to 300yd (or 400 for that matter. 162 ELDMs or 168 Berger VLDs for 300+.
use 168 Bergers only use the gun for long range
I will be using it for hunting, reds and sambar out to 500 to 600 metres. There is aways a balance of penetration and blowing up. Hopefully the eldx will give that at those distances.
