First time using my press.
The die is a full length 223 resizing die.
The primer punch keeps sliding up on some of the more difficult cartridges
How tight should the collar be ?? Did I over tighten it ?
Interestingly
1 the thread in the die seems ok
2 the stripped portion of the collar thread was bad and getting worse.
Any advise ??

That retaining collar thread is your problem for sure, it's stripped and no good, it will need replacing.
Looks like you need a new locking nut.
I have found you do have to do them up pretty tight and I'd say that one isn't holding.
Make sure the thread in the die body itself is not damaged.
Problem is .. I don't know if it was stripped when I got it ... Or if something I did stripped it. For sure it was stripped the first time I took it out.
The thread in the die looks to be ok - aside from being full of filings from the collar ;)
I would say that collar was stripped when you got it, where did you get it?

Off the shelf brass. Partizan prvi 55 grain sps. It's the first reload
Good point, double check the brass as there are two meathods of priming - Burdon and Boxer. Check out this link and it will tell you more than I can type Berdan vs. Boxer Primed Brass - YouTubeQuote:
