Committed the newby mistake of seating too far...

Up until now ive never had an issue but these powdercoated cast bullets arent as uniform as copper jackets. So, i got 3 out of my 20 slated for my testing done. The 4th jammed in there as i ejected a live one. I at least knew it had happened and i upturned the break barrel. Tipped most of the powder out harmlessly (instead of down into the trigger mech)

Such a dumbarse. Ah well. Live and learn. .02" off the lands is a fools errand for 45-70 cast ammo. I'll shoot the rest rather than stuff em trying to pop the crimps

ouch, at least a lead bullet will be easier to force out than a well wedged copper jacket one.

With cast bullets I really believe that you can forget about "seating x off the lands" just seat to cartridge oal. It makes no difference long or short as far as I have been able to determine,

I just tapped it out gently. S'pose its healthy to make a dopey mistake from time to time.

After all that sillyness with target seating i ended up up shooting on a 25deg sideways slope, shooting off my knee in the bloody rain! Fun, but yeah i could have done just as well with a lee whack a mole kit.

It happens to everyone with cast bullets at some time specially with a new gun, Cast bullets don't like being jammed into the rifling just a light touch; better to seat to the crimp groove if it has one
any load that consistently groups 1 1/2" can be considered excellent Cast bullet shooters only count 10 shots as groups, Check what seating depth the mold maker recommends and start there
cast bullet don't mind jumping the throat guides them, I don't know about powder coated bullets but standard lubed cast bullets polish the bore they will never wear it out, Even back in the 1800's
with the poor quality iron and steel barrels they shot many thosands of rounds with modern barrels and lead bullets they will last couple of life times.
