Cutting the tips off the 75gr Amax

Im not happy trying to seat these to mag length and dont want to single feed so i thought ill cut the tips off. Is it going to be safe? Only going to use it for pest control and wont be shooting over 200m or so

Assuming you mean the plastic tip?

Should only effect the bc and maybe the fast expanding

    AR mag length?
Bugger the experimental reloading, use a more appropriate length/shaped projectile for your situation.

If you're only shooting to 200 why not use a lighter shorter bullet? I shot 55g SGKs at .5 moa at 400 yds the other day, so they are acurate.

I cant imagine it will be unsafe. I have had to round off the noses (in a lathe) of accubonds to fit my 284 otherwise would be way deep in the case to still fit mag. I tried some in my 7mm saum and they were no less accurate than normal ones. Normal ones are 130 thou off lands to fit mag but accurate anyway so just live with it now. Am not sure what effect modification might have on game but they look like they would hurt quite a bit.

The long distance performance will be reduced, but should matter at 200m or less.

Plenty of old timer cullers use to cut the tip of FMJ milsurplus ammo for deer.

You know you can also buy the Hornady 75gn HPBT projectiles?
Both the 68gn and 75gn HPBT have a big hollow point, so expand nicely and will fit in the mag better.

I believe the 75gr BTHP is the same thing without the tip. They fragment down to quite low impact velocity on ballistics gel. If for an AR you can mill out a slot in the front of the mag for the tips but it will only feed reliably for 5 rounds.

The Sierra 77gr SMK and TMK are both advertised as working at AR mag length.
    Would certainly be my choice.

Have used a few thousand 77gr smk at at mag length-work very well and I am looking fwd to trying the tmk.
My understanding is that the new ammo the army has chosen to go with its new rifles uses the 77gn smk
