    Digital Calipers

I'm thinking of investing in a new set of digital calipers. I currently have a couple of cheapy digital calipers but the accuracy and repeatability of measurements is questionable. I know Mitutoyo is the gold standard in calipers but the price is pretty up there. Anyone got any advice or first hand experience on what would be a suitable choice which would give better performance than the cheapy models without going the whole hog and buying Mitutoyo.

Had cheap aliexpress calipers for years, always repeatable to 0.01mm.

Once they died, i got a chinese mitutoyo knock-off that seems to do the job, albeit slightly worse.

    Maybe I was lucky.

Either spend the money or buy from china and pray...

Thanks for the input. Those past posts on the same subject were helpful. I just ordered an igaging caliper. Hopefully this will do the trick.

I went to Hornady Dial Calipers, analogue, repeatable accuracy.

I used a pair of insize callipers professionally for cnc machining and manual lathe-work, as this is what the workshop had bought for whatever reason. They were very good and accurate even when compared to micrometers. To the point when for outside measurements I just used the insize callipers most of the time. Had been going strong with daily use for years. These were as accurate and repeatable as any manual dial callipers and simpler/nicer to use. Easy to rezero and change units too.

I saw this listing you may be interested in: Vernier Caliper 150mm/6" 0.02mm/ .001"Insize 1205-1502S https://www.trademe.co.nz/5626578369

$59 and free shipping. I'm sorely tempted.

Insize digital, plus a couple of cheaper chinese ones. Accuracy pretty good on all of them, but the Insize ones (5+ years old at least) seem more durable.

About 1/2 the price from Aliexpress I see... and they are a Chinese brand anyway, so probably not knock-offs.

edit: just saw they are available locally, free shipping, for half the price I paid years ago...

Insize seem to get good reviews online. I have ordered the igaging unit ex Amazon, I could not find them for sale in NZ. I guess we will see how good they are. I will report back.
