On a 270 I shoot I have just recently changed from a mk1 DPT suppressor to the mk 2 version & have found that the point of impact has shifted. No other changes made other that the suppressor change.
Just curious has anyone else experienced a POI shift between the mk1 & mk2 versions? They are dimensionally different but anyone know technically why?
New suppressor will effect the harmonics of the barrel differently to old one. Could be a number of factors; weight difference, contact of bushing etc. Most important thing is if its grouping.
Anything (even real small stuff/changes) on the muzzle (or just about anywhere on a barrel) will change POI. Took a young guy Tahr hunting once, was wondering why he was missing easy shots - took a bit of notice of his rifle (which I had helped zero) and bugger me the silly sod had tied a go-pro to the end of his barrel!!
It’s all different. Smaller volume in the baffles up front, less length beyond the muzzle etc and sits further over the rear of the barrel. All that stuff changes the harmonics and will result in POI shift.
Barrel harmonics change due to weight, position of the weight, how the gas expansion is suppressed by the baffle design, also pressure may be different - you may have a shift in velocity
Even adding a cover to the suppressor can create a shift.
And a large stag straight in front causes a change of impact because of the shakes.LOL.Quote:
