    ELDM on deer

Apologies, I recall this has been previously discussed but couldn't find the post.

I'm loading a 7 x 57 with 162 ELDM at moderate velocity. About 2450, no chrony. Very, very tight groups. Intend to use at local DS comps.

Has anyone used same projectile on deer? If so, how did the projectile perform?

    Cheers

    162 eld-m in rem mag at 3100fps

From 50 yards to 1200yards, great penetration and the exit holes let a lot of sunlight in.

A closer inspection nearly always shows terminal ballistics making organ smoothies on the inside with double lung shots. The 162 eld-m is a very reliable harvester of deer.

I use the eldm factory loads in .223 and .308 and rate so you should have no issues if your getting good groups

I have found when it comes to using them for hunting purposes there are two camps with opposing views:

    1) those that repeatedly state that you shouldnt use match bullets for hunting.
    2) those that have actually used them.

Almost everyone I've talked with that has actually hunted with ELDMs, rates them as killers.
I had great results with the 75s in my 223AI and am looking at using the 108s in my 6CM

I was running the 162 ELDM in 7mm08 at around 2520 fps. Very happy with performance on reds from bush ranges out to 430m -ish from memory. Good BC is a bonus too. Now using the 75s in 223.

Running them exclusively in a few different 7mm chamberings, always emphatic killers on deer.
Ran them at 2500fps in a 7mm08 and dropped numerous large deer at 300-400 yards.

They just plain kill. I’ve shot deer at 700m bang flop. With 147 eldm, used 75g I think it was in a 22/250AI and both 120g and 123g in Grendel and they just plain work. Must say the 147’s at high velocity and close range can make quite a mess tho.

the eldm 108 gr at 3000fps in my 243 work well on deer. goats are a bit thin side on and while they die the bullet is half way through before starting to open up. for goats i've found something lighter is far more destructive.

Ran them for years in a 18inch 7mm08 at 2530fps.
Shot fallow and goats from 10 meters out to 600meters with them.

Thanks all for your feedback. Settles it for me. One recipe for DS moderate range comp and hunting. Sorted, cheers.

I use the 73g in 223 and 155g in 308. The ELD M work well on game.

Yes and no. Dropped a few Jap with it couple of weeks ago. The 7x57 does the same thing, same action and is very capable on the range. Same action you got for me 40+years ago.
No point in one not being used so I'll flic the .308, says me "confidently"
