My CZ452 preferred CCI Subsonic.
Need to keep it subsonic, lots of horses and a few houses around where I hunt these days.
Picked up some CCI 45g suppressor ammo gonna give a packet a go,should stay under supersonic..says its doing 950fps
tried them, prefer cci. wouldnt use aguila in a semi as its dupont powder which is dirty burning (same as remington)
Just reading here - obviously there is a greater selection of Subsonic .22 than I thought/knew
Anyone got a list. (NZ available)
I only shoot 10-20m max
Using the good old Brno 2-E bolt action (ONLY 5 shot !!!!
I just use cci target ammo at close range I don't think a hollow point does much in fact I havnt seen 22lr hollow points do much altogether from the ones ive been able to recover but the stingers etc might be a different story never found them very accurate tho
Try CCI Standard Velocity. I have shot a helluva lot of small game and birds with them in the last few months and despite initial reservations about them being a solid, not a hollow point, my concerns were unfounded as everything is very dead. I am shooting magpies at an average of about 80 m with a 16.5" barrel with suppressor CZ455, shot about 700 rounds so far and not a single one has gone supersonic.
The only potential criticism I have is that if you strike the bird at an angle on the main wing feathers it might ricochet instead of penetrate however I suspect a hollow point might do the same.
Is the standard velocity subsonic?
winchester 42grn subsonic is the ducks nuts......

The R50 at bottom shows the best I can get from this rifle (and myself !).
That batch of Eley Subsonic Hollow was not accurate enough in my rifle for rabbit shooting at 50m. It would be acceptable at 20m (shoots a lot smaller MOA at shorter ranges.) Other standard brands like Winchester subsonic and a heavy CCI subsonic were a smidgeon better but still only good enough for short range. Interestingly, the Eley Sub shot a good inch lower at 50m than other ammo which were all similar so I suspect it is quite a bit slower than other brands.
You can go on the Eley web site and if you have a box of their ammo you can put the lot number in and it will show you quality assurance data for that batch. I found it corresponded fairly well with relative performance of different grades of Eley ammo I was testing. There's a new lot in the country now but I haven't tested it yet.
Here it is compared to the CCI 45gr you are trying.

and 4 sorts of Eley target ammo:

Note these are old lots, no longer available.
With the Brno I can keep 3 shots under an inch @ 50m with the CCI subsonics, only seems to go supersonic in the short barrel norinco?
Is that R50 available here
Not cheap ah
I do rabbit control in a local garden center after every one has gone home . It is all 5-20m shooting .I use a suppressor and Winchester Z Long ammo it is a 29gr 770fps solid also known as Zimmer ammo , it is a little more powerful than an air rifle and makes virtually no noise and is seriously accurate in my Finfire , It is so quiet that the suppressor really isn't necessary
NB The Eley Hollow point is a 40 gr at 1040 fps done to ensure that you don't get the odd crack. (last year it was a 38 gr HP)
They also do a 42gr Sub 1090 fps designed to cycle semi auto's.
Then the standard velocity target round nose is closer to 1060-1090
High velocity is 40 or 42 gr at 1250 fps.
Anyway you have a rim fire. some will like Eley, some won't. It may work for me but not for my mate.
I have not used enough 22 recently to say what works well now. My old JW15 used to like Eley Club in the orange box.

@The bomb
If you want to try a bunch of target ammo try this site https://www.shootingstuff.co.nz/ammunition/
You can get it by the 50 or 500.
Yea that’s the one I have seen the eleyammo on,good price that’s for sure.
I've been brought 2 lots of eley from shooting stuff in the last year. Very good to deal with.

My Tikka T1x loves the Eley Contact round nose subs.
If you were shooting light framed animals like magpies I would suggest target ammo would be fine. I doubt they are tough enough to start a hollowpoint bullet upsetting. Or go the other way and they would be a good penetrating round if you were trying to shoot at shoulders on 4 legged critters.
Back in the day there wasn't a lot of subsonic ammo to pick from. I remember trying PMC stuff as I used their zapper ammo (was happy with that) but it just didn't seem to do it all the time. I did my own testing on sand filled targets and the PMC stuff didn't do shit. Stayed the same shape. The Winchester/hushpower ammo did nice little button mushrooms right out to 50m.
If you are shooting bigger possums or hares then they would be my go to especially on head shots-especially possums. BUT I never tried CCI as I was always happy. If someone says they go good then I would be inclined to believe them.
I would like to try out the new Winchester 42gr subs (like @Micky Duck said) but as the last packet of ammo was used to try out various silencer designs I did instead of on game, I probably don't need any right now. Havent used the 22 on small game in yonks. Need to do something about that.
mrs and I were contemplating using the 22s for a goat hunt be a good way to practice our stalking skills
Anyone tried the sk or lapua ammo available from Belmont? I have bought some sk magazine ammo as it was cheap but I'm refinishing the stock so my 22 is out of action. Hence not testing it yet
Yep, bought a case (5000 rounds) of the SK rifle match for cheap practice compared to my centrefire. Averaged just on 0.5" at 50m for 9 x 10 shot groups. Tenex was the best in my 22LR but it's also 2.5 times the cost of SK... Around 0.3" at 50m for 5 x 10 shot groups.

Guys, be aware that your favourite .22 RF rifle will likely prefer one brand of ammo in terms of accuracy, than most others. Buy a range of .22 ammo brands and get out to the range and test them. It will pay dividends. I have a rack full of .22RF rifles; each one has a preferred brand/weight of ammo.
Anyone used Eley with a Norinco EM332? How does it rate? Any specific ammo that works particular well? (sorry for the hijack!)
Anyone shooting a Browning SA take down? If so what shoots well.
P.s thought I would have to hand it in but only takes 9 long rifle in the mag.
it gums up your rifle just roll them around on a couple of pieces of handy towel
Also its a pain when filling mags, as it makes the bullets slip about.
