    Factory Ammo Data Variance?

    Context:
So I have a box of Hornady 308 American Whitetail, factory ammo, with 12 rounds in the box. However, I found 2 hornady rounds in another box of factory ammo. (Fiocchi). Now last time i was out i tested the hornady rounds and the fiocchi rounds and put them back in the safe. So I'm 100% certain the hornady rounds belong with the american whitetail ones.

But I took out my scales and verniers just for curiosity, and the OAL was all pretty similar. The overall weight for the ones still in the box were all within a ballpark, and one of the 2 i found was also within that range, but one was a good 13gr overall out.

Could that other one be a dud lighter load from factory? If so, that would really mess up someone trying to sight in.

I think ill mark it and see if the POI is different at 100m than the others in the box.

There was a bit of variation between boxes/ batches a year or two back. Not uncommon to have three different batches in three boxes. Different powders etc. brass was also different from Hornady. It might be very similar book velocity but different powder. I would be tempted to pull them and look lol.

I was thinking that, but i want to see where it lands on a target, in relation to the others.

If i use a kinetic bullet puller, then reassemble, that will affect accuracy, wont it. If i did, say 4. Would that uniform the group?

I bought a couple of boxes of the whitetail stuff as it went OK in my old full stocked Sako a5. Haven't used any of it for a few years since selling that rifle but opened a box of it a few months back and 18 of the rounds had silver primers, and two of them were gold. Maybe its just the stuff they sweep up off the floor at the end of the week they throw it all together and make a load out of it haha
