Thread: FX 120i and auto trickler

Are they worth the hype? Have you got one, do you want one.

So my path now is one of target shooting only. I always was in the beam scale / powder thrower / spoon camp. As that was as good as I needed and who knows maybe that is where I should stay. I may not be able to shoot the difference.

From those that have gone over to one, was it worth it ( not speaking monetarily here)

I did go to an auto thrower and that has been an improvement in loads and time actually.

Oh and if you are looking to quit a V3 and A&D I'm all ears

I love my A&D120i and v3 combo. Fast, accurate and consistent as. Threw 200 6mm loads today and seated them in about an hour and 45. I was faffing about a little too.

I went from the lee balance beam, to a hornady gs1500 scale to the auto trickler, so a pretty big step up but man was it worth it. However i think it depends on the quantity you plan/need to load. For me, the a&d is fast and accurate which ticks the boxes i needed. Theres a new one coming out, the super trickler which lools cool, but for ease, workshop innovation does the autotrickler already

I’ve got a A&D300 with V4 and it’s life-changing compared to the RCBS Chargemaster I used to have! Not from a speed perspective (both throw about the same rate), but from the peace of mind that the scale is accurate and precise (unlike the ChargeMaster).

If you’re not in a rush to get one, then I’d wait to see how the SuperTrickler pans out....they use a vibrating fine trickle, instead of the rotating. Looks to be a good bit of kit.

I have an A&D 300 and V4 as well,I can't justify the cost of the unit set up for the amount I load and shoot personally.
And although I had faith in the redding balance beams accuracy, would often experience some drift or wandering of return to zero during a loading session,apart from failing to power up the scale well in advance when first used it and getting slightly inconsistent performance it's been a gamechanger for me in terms of ease of use.A mate needs a couple of hundred rounds for a cull and I'm happy to oblige,something I would never have considered before.
The other question mark over an autotrickler was setup and cleanup being worth it for small runs,this hasn't turned out to be an issue at all.
Could get by just fine.without it but wouldn't want to go back to the beam scale.

Jump on their Facebook page and have a look at the videos of its development and testing also. It hasn't had the extent of testing that Adam from Autotrickler has done, but I'd say it will get there in time. As mentioned earlier, if you're not in a rush and can wait to see how it pans out, it may be worth it.

Mixed feelings. I had a Gempro 250 scales and a lyman electric auto trickler.

Now have an A&D 300 and V4 auto Trickler

I have tested the gempro against the A&D and its just as accurate (0.02) but does not respond to trickle up so you have to lift the pan off and back on to get an accurate reading.

However I can still load faster with the gempro than the auto trickler, but its more fiddly.

At $400 compared to $2500 its hard to justify the A&D+auto trickler

Just upgrading the germpro to the A&D scales would probably have been a better option and faster as I wouldnt need to lift pan off and back on each time.

Geeez, you must be going like a cut cat to out run an autotrickler.

they are not fast! sometimes you wait for 10 second for that last kernal to feed out of the small tube.

Quite right. I now use a V4/120 having previously used the 120 with manual thrower and a Dandy trickler. Manual trickling can be faster but takes a lot of concentration, especially when you have 200 or more competition rounds to load. The big advantage of the V4 setup is reduced stress- you can seat bullets as each load comes off the scales. It's now a far more relaxing experience.
