    GRT & Linux help needed.

I've been using GRT occassionally for a couple of years on a Windows laptop using a usb stick. Great software.

The otherday I dumped windows and installed Linux mint. And glad I did. I've since discovered installing GRT in Linux is not a simple matter and would like to continue to use it, although it isn't a drama if I can't.

I have the instructions but I'm missing something.
I know I need to copy some commands into the terminal but there must be more to it than that?
E.g, where do I unzip the file to?

I'm a Linux virgin so need special treatment. lol.

    Help!

You can unzip the file anywhere really.

~/ will unzip it into your home directory. Might be easier to find it when you're running wine.

Otherwise anywhere under /usr/local/ or /opt/ works too.

You've set me an interesting challenge

    @will.i.em

Thx. This is very new to me. Used PCs for many years
but when it comes to linux Need to treat me like an idiot.

    Soo,
    1. Dump zip file in a folder in documents be ok?
    2. Unzip
    3. Then paste the required command lines in the terminal?
    4. Bobs your uncle.

Hope to do this early in the week. Finally getting decent internet connected Monday. It's a big download.

    THX, GREAT offer. @Kelton

I have a very old Laptop I installed Linux on last week as a basic trial. Thought it was rubbish. Actually a good workable LapTop now. LOL. Ill try and install it on that one first. If that doesn't work I might take you up on that offer.
Just don't want to use people up. I'm only an occasional user of GRT, if that makes sense. And a new version will be out in about a year. (perhaps wait till then)

This PT I'm on now works like it was a teenager. Was like an old man a few days ago.

Despite this issue I think I'm a Linux lover already.

Have played with Linux Mint a few times but always ended up back on Windows as simply have to many programs that won't run or can't be made to run on Linux and no Linux alternative.

Google did help me get my Brother printer working on Linux though.

In theory it will work, but I couldn't get it to work on the Linux I was running. I got an error about a missing file. ./guifrmwrk.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I've seen a few posts about the Linux packages not being separately developed for Linux. I went with the Windows download and used "Wine" to run the Windows .exe file in Linux.

    sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
    sudo apt update
    sudo apt install wine wine32:i386
    wine GordonsReloadingTool.exe

Then Bob was my uncle ;P

I only run a few "office" apps and usual photo, video, email, browseretc, apps. Just basic stuff.
Once I was online linux just set up my printer automatically.

    @will.i.em @Happy Jack

    OK, just a follow up.
Finally got decent internet & a bit of time.
Attempted to install "wine" this morning and twice got an error message. (two different laptops)
So,,, I have given up. I can survive without it and given the amount of use not worth the hassle. Its nice software and I rather like it,,, but that's life. I can always run GRT using my wife's old windows laptop or my daughters if I get desperate. (Using it on the USB)

In the mean time I love linux. Laptop now has a new lease of life.
Happy Jack and will.i.em like this.
