I posed this question before in another thread but with no answers, when we see a pass through shot, and blood lungs etc hanging in the bushes behind the animal, was it 'blown' out of the animal ahead of the bullet or sucked out by a venturi effect ?

@Moa Hunter I believe its sucked out as the projectile would need to pierce the off side skin to allow the lung material to be able to exit.
If you watch a slow motion shot where the projectile ends up under the skin on the off side they show the skin stretching a considerable amount to capture that projectile so i dont think soft lung tissue would have the mass or energy to punch through the skin ahead of the projectile.

That does make a lot of sense @wsm junkie and is also potentially an explanation for the type of off-side bruising we see with soft non exiting projectiles, the soft tissue / blood being forced ahead or along with the slowing projectile, then radiating out.
So the exiting projectile can do as much internal damage but suck the blood etc out without causing the hydraulic bruising ??

I think the bruising is more like a karate chop/punch effect...done right your hand exits as fast as it goes in...the shock of hit moves tissue outwards and it then slams back into cavity created...I find monos work in reverse to cup n core...more damage on nearside and less on farside.

There is a lot of good talk on the American forums about these pills. Sounds like they non finicky to load and very accurate. The Americans are a good resource for ballistic data but I don't listen to a word they say about terminal performance as they don't get the opportunity to shoot enough game like we do.
I am pretty keen to test them out. If anyone wants to make an order I would be happy to split freight costs with them.
@Tahr I am sure that load of yours will knock em off there feet. That's is a lazer at that MV!

The pkt I bought was here in 5 days. Great service. Sharing freight is a good idea.

Yes they do seem to be easy to get to shoot. My very first trial load of 3 was around .5moa. Its not often load development is done and dusted with 5 shots.

The podcast is well worth a listen. Steve the Hammer Hunter guy brings together a whole lot of variables in the discussion of how they developed these bullets. For instance the part about why stability is so important in this design’s terminal performance is very interesting. Also the discussion about ballistic coefficient.

Not many discussions of this nature can hold my attention for more than 10 minutes but this kept me busy for the full hour plus.

A copper bullet with a hollow point - doesn't get much simpler than that. Assured expansion from the hollow point.

It was an interesting podcast. I aggree that we do get a bit hung up on high BC projectiles. Terminal performance is far more important.

I hope to try them out on a deer tonight. Maybe.

They are solid copper and lathed. Different to Barnes in so much as they are designed to shed their petals on expansion.

If you order some, make sure you order a decent amount because the freight on 100 is simply horrendous (USD68 I think).

    So I ordered 100 117 grn .277 Hammer Hunters for my 270wsm (22" barrel).

Being so expensive I only loaded 7 test rounds using 2 different loads of R19. Both loads shot into .5" - one 3 shot group and one 2 shot - I saved a couple for the chrono.
The highest charge (no pressure signs) chrono'd @ 3449 fps.

I could likely get more speed but Im very happy with that.

Now to do a final sight and validation using as few projectiles as I can and then see how they perform on deer.

@Kiwi Greg I think that you were interested?
The Hammers have such a following over there, no doubt they are the king of the Monos, almost worth importing but....

The problem is they won't be cheap & Kiwis are tight....possibly not as tights as Americans but...
