Only time in many years I've ever experienced a hangfire was with 1942 CAC Berdan primed Cordite spaghetti powered 303B. There was a distinct delay between the primer detonation and the powder firing. After 3 of them and a few fail-to-fires, I pulled the bullets and tossed the rest. Never had it happen with reloads tho. And I've pushed a couple of boundaries...maybe not the right ones.
Are you sure it wasnt just the super slow enfield lock time, compared to a modern rifle every shot with an enfield seems like a hangfire
