They work very well - if you get the right one.
The sonic boom is nothing by comparison with the noise produced by the powder igniting.
I've just purchase two - on for my tikka 223 and one for my 243.
They also reduce recoil - and increase muzzle velocity.
As a comparison, I can now (although I dont) easily fire both rifles without hearing protection. If I did that without suppression, my ears would be ringing.
I was originally going to get full overbarrels, but after talking to Greystone Guns I decided a half length overbarrel silencer instead. I had to have the barrel shortened , but ended up with a very nicely (better) balanced rifle.
Others may have different experiences, but mine have been nothing but good.

that's pretty good compared to what they are un-suppressed. what sort of suppressor is it?

Not sure if you're asking me or VC , but heres my 2 cents :

After getting the 308 suppressed I get everything suppressed as soon as I buy it. Don't even bother trying the rifle before hand. Now four Gunworks suppressors sitting in hunting gear.

Not sure what mine is off the top of my head.
May be a Dan can would have to check.
