    Hornady Brass Primer Seating Problems

Has anyone ever experienced trouble seating primers in once fired Hornady brass?

I’ve loaded thousands of rounds over the years but this is the first time I’ve run into this issue. It’s also my first time using Hornady brass. They are just really tight and the odd one completely bends and won’t go in.

I’ve tried two different brands of primers and to rule out my priming tool I’ve put some primers into some other brass and they went in smoothly.

    Any advice appreciated.

Some case holders are a different thickness. Have you got another you can try before using a primer pocket uniforming tool

I had a seating depth problems with Hornady brass but not tight primers... problem was a Hornady shell holder in a Lyman primer seater.

I do however use a primer pocket uniformer with once fired brass before reload which may explain why I do not see tight primers.

Hornady have a habit of crimping primers on some of their rounds. Its not always obvious but will be a circle around the primer pocket with burr once primer removed. What cartridge and was it once fired factory?

I believe it was Precision Hunter. But thanks to all for the answers I had never come across this crimping before, it sounds and looks exactly like the issue.

Most .223 and .308 primers are crimped or sealed being Military calibres they don't bother changing to non crimped when making civilian ammo
Americans are not reloaders as much as we are, The main reason for primer shortages is Factory ammo not hoarders.
