Thread: Hornady quality control

Last night was loading a few rounds for my 7mm rem mag with my usual load of 162g eldx . With only a couple of cases left to seat the projectile in i grabbed another one out of the box but it dropped down inside the case so just sitting on top of the powder which is level with the bottom of the neck, WTF, what have i fucked up this time, put that case aside and put another case into my press to seat the bullet, same thing WTF , then realized it was the bullet , different caliber As you can see in the photo looks very similar to my 7m 162gr but maybe 6.5 ,on my scales it went 147 gr . Guess it slipped through hornadys quality control !

If you recall about two years ago one of our members had it happen other way around and loaded a couple of too heavy projectiles with results that were "spicy".

It does happen from time to time.

Can happen with factory ammo too. Mate was shooting 308 Federal ammo a few years back. Shot a couple of animals ok then third shot hit scree no where near animal. WTF ? Turned out there were three 243 cartridges in the packet. Some choice words said and carried on.

Friend of mine who shoots factory ammo took a new 7mm-08 rifle to the range to sight in with a new pack of Hornady ammo. Shot all the first mag full and was about to recharge the mag. Tipped cartridges out of the pack and two 30.30 cartridges were among them !

Unlike Sierra whom give you an extra pill.

Many years back I found a 500 gr bullet in a packet of Hornady 30 cal bullets. Needless to say the difference was very obvious.
