I have a subsonic load for my 222, 55gn bullet with 2.6gn of shotgun powder, 1020 fps. At 100m its more accurate than my Brno 2E, which can make bug holes at 50m...

Might have to try the air rifle pellet lark next!

Here are the 222 subsonic loads... [link below] also now do a super load, 1700 fps with 6gn powder. Projectile recommended max is 1800. Fair bit more whack than the 22LR.

One nice thing about these is that they seem to shoot clean as a whistle. Patch comes out nearly clean after shooting them. REALLY want to find a little bit more AS50N...

3.5 gr trail boss under a 40 gr Speer, gives me 1360 fps in a .22 Hornet.
Got same load under a Speer 46 to check for speed, this is my normal pip squeak load.

    I'm using 7.6gr of AS 50-N with a 55gr superoo in the 223. GRT says it's doing about 2000fps.
I just use a sharp blade and cut the tips off. They kill foxes.

Kind of, H&N .224 55gn round nose, they are copper then polymer coated. Can buy them from Gun City in NZ. I picked up a box of 1000 for $120 from memory...

Would love to get hold of some in 7mm or 30 cal, cheap sub-1800 fps option. Will have to stick with casting for those projectiles for now... but looking at trying some powder coating, and hollow point conversion on my mold.

I would be very tempted to load those backwards. Using something similar in .44 on possums ,they seem to slip right through unless hit solid big bone bits .rather disappointing, backwards would give bigger metplate.

I haven't tried backwards, but I made up a collet to hold them in the lathe and then cut flat nose on them (supers) or flat nose and hollow point (subs). Seems to work fine, and now I have technique sorted, takes me about 10mins to process 50 HP in the lathe, so not too time consuming.

    Greetings All,
Range day yesterday and was windy early so did not bother with the chrono. The rifle is zeroed for 275 metres (300 yards) for F class so I shot my general load of 25.5 grains of AR2206H with the 55 grain projectile at 3,150 fps, my target load of 25 grains of AR2206H with the 69 grain Sierra HPTBT for 2,950 fps and the squib load of 20 grains of AR2206 with the 55 grain Hornady. The loads were shot at 110 metres. There was a little breeze and the loads all shot close to the same for horizontal (or would have if I had remembered to zero the windage on the scope before shooting the first load) and not that much difference in elevation. The general load shot 125mm above point of aim, the target load 115mm and the squib load 95mm.
So what are the learnings from all this? The squib load will need the scope adjusted for zero. Coming up 3 moa (about 90mm at 110 metres) should do the job. Chronographing and tinkering is next. Something to do over the winter.
    Regards Grandpamac.

Size: 4.44 MB must get around to trying these. Single buckshot ball in x39 case with five grains trailboss up it's bum. Pretty sure will still be well supersonic, but hopefully not to loud.
